Ernie screwed it up. He got away with Aumont. He got away with using Albers for an inning too but he went back to him for another inning when he shouldn't have. He should have started the inning fresh with one of his interesting AAA guys. Then when they got in trouble he should have just went to Brash. Now it will take a miracle to make Brash relevant. Not smart.

Ok I just looked at Canada's roster and I Whitt has definitely been saving his best relief arms. Not sure that I like the strategy but the corpses he's used so far miraculously got through 5 innings and he's got plenty of bullets left for the rest of this game. He's got Brash available who is a legit relief ace in this format. Then Curtis Taylor, Trevor Bridgen, Indigo Diaz and Cade Smith are also available and each of them had 10 K/9 or higher in AAA last year and all of them project pretty well. So I think Canada definitely has a chance to win this game.

So Urquidy is done. Not sure how good Mexico's bullpen is. I haven't heard of many of their names so I assume it's not great but there's a big difference between some of these no namers. Some are completely washed up beer league types and some can be serviceable.

Yeah get the damn ball in. Not sure if they didn't have the relay set up right or what. To the naked eye, the defense between the different teams stands out so much more than any other aspect of the game.

Otto Lopez looks pretty good to me. Bat is decent. He seems fine as a backup SS too but apparently is even better in the OF? Good UT option on the bench for the Jays.

Let's f*** these guys up! I think we have a chance. Zastrynzny seems to have had some sort of talent change last year. His K's spiked big time. Probably added a sweeper or something.

I think it's ok to allow the loose connections. If MLB wants to grow the game in GB and Italy I think the loose connections allow them to field decent teams which will better showcase the sport in those countries. I think Canada just needs to get better at finding and recruiting these guys. Gotta be shitloads of American players in AA, AAA and even on the MLB level with a connection strong enough to play for Canada. You'd think they could field an entire team of MLB and AAA talent.

One cool thing about the WBC is the tournament aspect of it and the strategy that brings. Reminds me of my high school tournaments. Seems like the manager's pitching decisions are more important in this kind of format than they are over the long slog of an MLB season. For example, I was slamming Whitt for starting the 15-year-old Mitch Bratt against Team USA. But we probably weren't going to beat them anyway so sacrificing Mitch Bratt's mental psyche and career was a brilliant move that allowed us to wax the Colombians yesterday and then set us up for a do or die game with a decent pitcher on the hill against Mexico. Ernie is playing 4D Chess out there.
