    I also really like Rio Ruiz and Vincent Velasquez, two guys I was championing hard in their draft years. Max Stassi is also a solid prospect. If I have one complaint it's that they picked really conservatively in 2013 after Appel. They probably thought he would ask for more than slot, though he eventually signed for 1.45mm below. I liked Thurman in round 2 but they could have done much better than Kent Emmanuel in the 3rd, or gone for higher upside with their late overslot guys than Devonte German or Chase McDonald, but I'll give Lunhow the benefit of the doubt on his choices.

    I'll take the Astros simply because of Luhnow. The guy just knows how to build teams (look at most of the Cardinals good young players) and he's going to add Rodon at the draft to an already impressive group in Houston. Rodon and Appel give him a 1/2 punch at the top of their rotation as soon as 2015, with Correa and Springer serving as two premium position players. Too bad they didn't win with their bid on Abreu, but apparently they are considering making a run at Tanaka, which would be even better.     It makes sense the other way too, because it means we don't even have to have the top bid to win, provided he likes our team/org/city better. Having said that I wouldn't like our chances. I mean Uehara didn't even want to come here.

    Wait, so does Tanaka still get to choose where he wants to go? Or is it top bid wins the negotiating rights period. I think that's the Jays best chance, cause I don't see any way Tanaka chooses us over some of the other teams if he has a choice.

    I still think they should have drafted Gray over Bryant. Gray looks like he's going to be a front line starter, and that's something they really lack in the system, while they have Baez, Olt, and potentially Villanueva who could all slot in at third base, and Soler in right field. Imagine if they had taken Gray, then next draft they have a choice between Hoffman or Kolek at number 2. Go big on Masahiro Tanaka, and all of a sudden you have a dangerous, young, top 3 in the rotation, not even counting Edwards or Vizciano.

    Yeah that's what I meant. He wanted Johnson, but based on the pieces the Marlins wanted back he decided to expand the deal to get Reyes. I'm curious what we would have had to give up if we only wanted Reyes. Maybe Hech + Alvarez + Marisnick. We keep Nicolino and Desclafani and trade Escobar somewhere else. There were a few teams looking for a shortstop if I recall.
