  1. fatcowxlive up to bat.
  2. With the 24th pick in the First Round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates select Monte Harrison, a center fielder from Lee's Summit West High School, Missouri. http://www.studentsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Monte-Harrison.jpg "Though we as an organization have enviable depth at the outfield position with the likes of Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte, and Gregory Polanco, already in the fold, you can never go wrong in selecting the best player available and our scouts feel that Monte is that. If anything, having the positive experiences we've had in the past developing those players, gave us a certain amount of confidence in making this pick. Monte is an elite level athlete, who has a scholarship to play both football and basketball at a Division 1 college. We think he projects very well at the next level with all five tools being at least above average or plus; particularly his speed (6.65 60 yard dash time), and arm (97 mph from the outfield). Unlike many pure athletes his age, we have seen enough from him with the bat this spring that we feel comfortable he will eventually develop into an above average hitter, with enough power to profile in right field, should he be required to make that move at some point."
  3. I'll do Grant's pick right now if no one minds. You can do Spanky's (the Reds) in the supplemental. We should be there by tomorrow night. Hopefully. lol
  4. D-No going ham in Dunedin. 5ip 3h 0r 1bb 8so By July it's going to be Norris > Sanchez on many prospects lists, if it isn't already.
  5. I wonder what happened to Trenton Kemp. There's virtually no buzz about him this spring. He's a really athletic five tool guy who just switched from football to baseball a year ago. Had a really good showing at the PG National. Reminds me a little of Hunter Pence. I could see someone taking him in a signable round. Just surprised he hasn't been mentioned much.
  6. Great job Kat. OP updated guys.
  7. If Freeland fell one spot, I wonder if the Jays would still take Toussaint over him. I really hope not.
  8. Sorry to hear that Kat. So you want us to take over your 2 picks for now, or just give you a day or two? Either is fine.
  9. We may actually finish this by the 6th. lol Has anyone PM'd KingKat?
  10. Yeah. If you check the thread and you see an unrepresented team hasn't been picked for just make the pick. That's basically what I've been doing. lol
  11. Awesome. Welcome back GD. Sorry for slacking guys, it's been a busy weekend.

  14. The mechanics aren't great, but they're not Chris Sale bad. He throws across his body some, short stride, and his primary secondary is a slider. I'm trying to imagine some way he falls to us at 9 (without injury), but I just can't see him getting past Colorado if he makes it that far.
  15. College pitching stats. http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2014/05/19/college-pitching-stats-51914/
  16. I would rather have Grant Holmes than Toussaint. His present stuff is just as good if not better, and he has much better command and pitchability. The only thing Toussaint really has over Holmes is projection, and about an inch in height. I'm hoping we can get any of the following guys at pick 49: Ti'Quan Forbes, Justus Sheffield, Cameron Varga, Keaton McKinney, Josh Morgan. I also would love if we could pick up a guy like Marc Zagunis or Grayson Grenier with one of our picks from 3-6. Two really intriguing college catching prospects. I favor Zagunis slightly more than Grenier at this point, but I like both. A high school guy like Jackson Reetz, might make sense too.
  17. I'll make the pick and updates later tonight guys.
  18. Northof49 up with Kansas pick.
  19. With the 16th pick in the 2014 MLB draft the Arizona Diamondbacks select Aaron Nola a right handed pitcher from the Louisiana State University. http://www.wbrz.com/images/news/2013-05/5_6NolaPitcher.jpg "Our scouts feel that Aaron is very similar to our first round pick in the 2013 draft (pitcher Brady Shipley), who we picked 15th overall from the University of Nevada. Brady was considered a top 10 pick, but because of the way the board fell ahead of us, we were able to luck into having him fall to us a little lower than where he was ranked. Same thing happened this year with Aaron, and we're glad it did. Between the two guys Brady was probably more of a power guy; mid to high 90s fastball with a wipeout slider, and a fall off the table changeup. Aaron is more of a control pitcher with unbelievable command, but he'll throw plenty hard with a low to mid 90s sinking fastball, and he has arguably the best changeup in the entire draft. If you want to compare/contrast styles, Nola would be the Maddux to Brady's Smoltz. We feel he has the potential to move up our system quickly with his polish and experience, with the potential upside of either a number 2 or 3 starter."
  20. Diamondbacks up next. So me I guess.
  21. With the 15th pick in the 2014 MLB draft the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim select Sean Newcomb a left handed pitcher from the University of Hartford. http://prospectinsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/NewcombHartford.jpg "We are happy to welcome Sean to our organization. We didn't think he'd make it to us at our pick with all the helium he's gotten lately. He gives our system a shot in the arm so to speak, providing us with a high upside arm with the potential to start in a major league rotation. Sean is a big, workhorse type of pitcher with power stuff from the left side. His stuff and his development as a pitcher has really come on in the past year-and-a-half, bringing his dominant run of performance from the Cape Cod League last summer to his collegiate team this spring. Our scouts compare him to Red Sox starter Jon Lester, due to his size, mid 90s fastball, and smooth effortless arm action. While some feel he needs to work on his secondary pitches, he has shown flashes of above average potential with both his curve and his changeup."
  22. BA expanded their top 100 to 200 today. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-preview/
