  1. Use the money saved to pay for great pitching. Great pitching is the best defense anyways.
  2. ozuna is a year younger than springer, he doesn't have a pick attached to him and his AAV will be a fair amount less with one or 2 years less commitment than Springer. His exit velocity just jumps out. If we were going to sign an outfielder, I think I might prefer Ozuna.
  3. If we were going by MLB projections I would rather sign Morton for 1 year 8, Paxton for 1 year 10 and Kluber for one year 12 with 2nd year option, than Bauer for 4 years 32 per year.
  4. yeah, but we need a 3rd baseman for 2 or 3 years. We could possibly get Turner for 2 DJ for 3 years and save 8 to 10 mil. Springer could cost 25+ for 5 or 6 years. We can non tender Shaw. Grichuk would be difficult to move. We need money for pitching, both in the rotation and a proven bullpen piece. If we were going to up payroll by 40 springer would leave us 15 for pitching. I'd rather have DJ or Turner and 25 for pitching, or 35 for pitching if we were going to bump payroll by 50 mil. I mean if we non tender Shaw we're just over 60 mil active roster. If we were going to get to 140 on the active payroll, Springer might make more sense. It depends what the budget is.
  5. Springer is going to cost a lot more and an extra year or two. I'd rather sign DJ and put the savings into pitching.
  6. Ok...I'm not the only one who thought that was ridiculous. We should be hard after DJ out of the gates. Probably won't get him, but we need to at least bid up the price the Yankees have to pay. 3 and 60 for DJ....might be willing to extend a bit further too.
  7. I'll take that bet. Sto has a high value of his own worth.
  8. I like May, Trevor Rosenthal as well. Either Trevor would work really. Kluber on the cheap is for sure. Morton or Paxton on the not so cheap, but not ridiculously expensive either....and Bauer....well one can dream. I don't know why, but I don't think Turner is a total slam dunk to resign with the Dodgers. I'd love DJ, but I think he's a lock to sign with the yankees. We should help bid that price up though. Gregorious is interesting, but he may want too many years.
  9. The first signing likely to come a couple weeks later! I hope the pace of signings is surprisingly quick.
  10. One year....I'd give him pro-rated 20 mil if he wants to go on the Clemens plan.
  11. well the rays cheaped out and declined Morton's 15 mil option. He might retire, but if he doesn't I'd rather take Anderson's 9.5 mil and plow it into a 1 year 18 mil offer for Morton.
  12. and yet somehow I'm still relieved. Great start to the offseason!
  13. Every off season is interesting, but we have the first covid environment, the CBA is expiring and the 2022 free agent class is ridiculous. How many bullets will teams save for Rizzo, Freeman, Baez, Lindor, Correa, Seager, Story, Bryant, Syndergaard, Kershaw, Scherzer, Lynn, Verlander, Greinke, McCullers, Morton, Roriguez, Bundy, Gray potential opt outs for Arenado, Martinez, Stanton, Castellanos. There's a lot of meat on the bone for next year even after a few of the guys of the guys on the list sign extensions.
  14. I'm not the biggest grichuk fan and I don't think we'll get springer anyways, but Grichuk is owed 3 and 31 and he's close to a 2 win player. He's not Albert Pujols, you could find a place to move him to. Even if you had to eat a little bit of money, and I don't think you would have to do that.
  15. Can't wait for free agency to begin! I've kind of been on the screw the injury risk, sign James Paxton train the last few days in my own mind. Probably won't happen, but if the discount is large enough, let's roll the dice!
  16. You should educate the MLB radio hosts because pulling Snell was pretty much all they talked about...lol. I had to drive out of town for work, so I listened to multiple different guests and hosts talk about it. The interesting thing is there were a couple different angles this was attacked. Jake Odorizzi was on early and he used the old eye test. He said it was the most dominant he had ever seen Snell. David Price was on later, and although he didn't play with Snell he said he has tuned in to watch many of his games over the years and he also said it was the most dominant he had ever seen Snell. Then the hosts were using some statistical analysis. The obvious 9 Ks in 5.2 with 0 walks and 73 pitches. Then they talked about the 16 swinging strikes. They also talked about the fact there were 9 balls put in play from Snell. Snell threw something like 30 fastballs and 0 fastballs were put in play. Only 2 of the balls put in play were sharp contact. They talked about swinging strike plus called strike percentage. Swinging, obviously good and called good because you're crossing up guys or painting. Apparently 25% is good, 30% and you're dealing and the night Degrom was dealing earlier in the year and got 19 wiffs in his best start of the season he was at 40% that night. Snell's swinging strike plus called strike percentage was 48% last night, which was the highest of any game post season or regular season game pitched by any starter this season. Guys will put up zeros and be getting lucky, but if you look at the advanced stats, the spray chart the eye test of velocity and movement, Snell was arguably pitching one of the finest games a starter has thrown all season. Tampa simply does not believe in a guy being "ON". There's no such thing in their world. If you can't give a guy a little more rope given what Snell did last night, you never will. It's not like the Dodgers were swinging through cookies, they were getting dominated.
  17. AKA normal everyday life in the US.
  18. I feel awful for him. Celebrating a world series is a special thing....that's been taken from him now....what a shame.
  19. Trout's never going to ask for a trade....7 or 8 years from now when he's played in 3 total post season games maybe the angels will trade him and give him a shot at playing in the post season.
  20. 2nd highest payroll won the world series. All is in good order. Time for the Jays to spend money!
  21. Cash just handed the world series to the Dodgers......
  22. set in stone game plan. Pitchers don't even get mad anymore.
  23. here's to hoping! https://www.forbes.com/sites/roberthart/2020/10/19/pfizer-reportedly-manufactures-several-hundred-thousand-covid-19-vaccines-anticipating-november-regulatory-approval/#4bf34e185b92
  24. Yeah, but if he wasn't allowed to stay in a game and pitch while he was injured at the beginning of the season or rushed back, maybe he would have avoided tommy john.
