  1. Paragraphs and spacing are your friend. You sure added a lot of context to my words. Thanks for reading my mind. I never said there wasn't a collaborative think tank to the Jays team. It was Hurl that said Shapiro had zero"" input into player personnel decisions. I have no idea if Hurl even knows anyone in the front office or who he knows. I never suggested Shapiro has final say on anything. The idea that Shapiro doesn't have words of wisdom and thoughts shared with a larger group of people who work towards the decision making process is ridiculous IMO. I also take no issue with Shapiro's input. He's a bright guy.
  2. This came from our Health Minister. 6 million doses were bought by our government for q1. 4 from pfizer 2 from moderna. Sask gets 180K. Pfizer has already made a formal application to regulatory bodies in Canada, UK, USA etc for approval. We'll be vaccinating people in January. There aren't going to sit on things. All the provinces are working on distribution plans. I don't expect fans for the start of the season, but we should have the most vulnerable of society vaccinated by April. It really wouldn't make sense to block the Jays from playing in Toronto at that point. I mean even if it's just the 70 plus community and immunocompromised and health care workers that's going to ease the burden on the hospitals.
  3. I'm sure these people in the Jays F.O. are completely aware of how often Shapiro and Atkins talk and what it any influence Shapiro has over Atkins.
  4. We just had a release in Sask that we should have 180K doses of vaccine initially for jan/feb. That will do almost 9% of the population. I'm sure Toronto will get 15% allocation in the early going. By the time the baseball season hits in April that number could be 25 to 30% At 30% you could get all immunocompromised people under 60 and all people over the age of 60% done. I'm going to remain optimistic that the Jays will start the season in Toronto. Everything has to go well though.
  5. I'd trade Manoah and Moreno straight up for Darvish. We have Jansen and Kirk and Riley Adams impressed at the alternate site and is closer to being major league ready. Manoah could be Noah Syndergaard, but he could be Jeff Hoffman. Darvish was arguably the best pitcher in the National league last year. He's 23, 20 and 19 over the next 3 years. If we get another ace we have a shot at winning next year. Ryu is fantastic but by the time Manoah get here in 2023 he might not be as good. Let's not waste 2021 and 2022 Ryu. If we didn't have young catchers in Jansen and Kirk trading Moreno might not make as much sense. We're loaded with young players. We need some proven vets.
  6. You're giving away our Canadian! If we're taking on Kimbrel at one and 17 mil with the risk of a vesting option I have to include Roark going the other way. Darvish is basically Bauer, but he's 10 to 15 mil a year cheaper and you only have a 3 year commitment. Now he's got age risk. Can he keep this level up for one more year, 2 years or 3? He's an interesting guy and they probably want more prospect wise. Bryant, Darvish, Kimbrel something else for Anthony Kay, McGuire, Roark, Manoah and Moreno and maybe another flyer.
  7. Man there are a lot of relievers on the market this year. Liam Hendriks, Trevor May, Trevor Rosenthal, Treinen are the head liners but there are lots of intriguing cheaper options. Yates, Holland had an interesting year, Melancon, Greene, McGee, Jeffress, Soria, O'day, Anthony Bass. There are lots of filler guys beyond this. It would be nice to sign one or two veteran relievers. We might just bring Bass back because he might be the easiest to sign and won't cost that much. McGee really had a really good year. Uptick in velocity and got a crazy amount of swing and misses. Do you even factor 2020 numbers in? McGee's a guy I might throw a 1 and 4 mil a year gamble on.
  8. So Davish was a 3 win player in 60 games and his salary actually went up a million a year because of performance bonuses and his cost is Espinal. Giddy up. Where do I sign..lol. There is a possibility the Cubs go into fire sale mode and he might come at a discount, but it's probably going to cost more than Espinal!
  9. While we are raiding the Cubs, Darvish at 3 years 62 looks pretty tempting to me. His velocity ticked up and I still remember that cruel rumour that was floated on his original posting that we might have won the bid. I think he'd be a nice add...not sure what the cost would be.
  10. I can also acknowledge I understand he wouldn't be on some potential non-tender lists if he had tremendous value. It probably isn't going to cost much for Bryant because you're going to have to pay a lot of salary. The cost might be less than what someone else suggested. Depending what else happened in the offseason I also wouldn't mind a slight overpay to ensure you don't lose a deal given our current state of prospect capital either. I'm pretty much Switzerland on this one. I'd much prefer to go after Storey as a rental.
  11. I'm just playing devils advocate. I'm all for signing Turner over trading for Bryant. I'm just saying if all else fails and you don't get LeMahieu, Turner, Springer or can't trade Lindor, Storey or sign a number of impact pitchers that I would be open to the idea of trading for Bryant if you felt he could still be a 5 win player. I'm not saying it's the first move out of the gate. I'm saying as a fall back plan I would have no issue pulling the trigger on the deal if you couldn't impact your team with other moves.
  12. I'm not suggesting there isn't PED use or people willing to risk cheating. Robbie Cano is one of the highest earning MLB players over the past 7 years. He has the financial resources to find the best way to cheat. He's connected enough that, if there are guys cheating and getting away with it, he'd find out how they are doing it. He's been caught twice now. If Robbie Cano can't beat the system, how could any player attempt to cheat and believe there wasn't a chance he would get caught. If PED's turn you from a guy who's not into the major leagues to a guy who finds a major league field, but is not an impact player you are more likely to be able to use PEDs and not get caught. Star players get tested far more frequently than 4th outfielders. Jose got test something like 19 times in a season when he was hitting 40+ bombs. In the steroid era as much as 50% of the league potentially used steroids. They took substances that were truly effective because there was no testing. Today even for the guys who do cheat, they can't use the substances that were used in the mid 90s that really gave players a boost because they are easily detectible and stay in your system a long time. I would guess the number of players using is less than 5%. The penalties are stiff and if Robbie gets caught anyone can. The risks are too great. I feel bad for Nelson Cruz. There are people that think it's impossible for him to be doing what he's doing, so he must be cheating. The reality if you looked into it he's likely been tested a ridiculous amount. The more likely answer on Cruz is he's just a really good baseball hitter.
  13. Hiraldo is rule 5 eligible in 2 years. We have Bo, Cavan, Martin, Groshans, and Martinez ahead of him. You might have a hard time fitting him on the 40 man in 2 years and lose him for nothing. Even if you get him on the 40. Who is he replacing on the active roster in a couple years? He could play really well and jump other prospects over the next 2 years. You come to these points and you have to make evaluations. Sometimes you are wrong. There isn't room on the active roster for Martin, Groshans, Martinez and Hiraldo when you have Bo and Cavan ahead of them. If you think Bryant is capable of bouncing back being a 5 win player in one year. That's more valuable to me than a guy who might be a 8 to 10 win player over 6 years when we are going to have a hard time finding a place on the 40 in 2 years. If I can get Bryant and the center piece Hiraldo, giddy up! I do that deal every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
  14. Yeah and Trump really won the election. Conspiracy theories! With randomized testing, players don't know when they will be tested and when this is the case it's extremely difficult to beat. The covid season probably made PED testing a lot more lax. Robbie just rolled the dice and lost. Good players get tested way more frequently. Robbie wasn't that good anymore. Maybe he thought he wouldn't get tested.
  15. It's not that easy to get away with anymore. That's why people are getting caught. This is the 2nd time for Cano. I would bet the vast majority of the league is not using.
  16. I just really like the free agent pool next year and if it takes 3 years for tanaka that's too much for me. Somehow he avoided Tommy John for his entire Yankee contract, but that elbow worries me a bit.
  17. Charlie Morton was a 6 win pitcher in 2019. You add in his post season innings and he was just as good in 2020. I don't get why he doesn't get more love. He had a FIP under 3 in 2019 and it was just over 3 in 2020. Morton on a one year would make me way more excited than Tanaka on a multi year deal. There are way too many quality starters out there on the free agent market next year to be tied down to Tanaka.
  18. fair enough...if he's a one year guy he's still behind kluber, paxton and Morton for me. MLB trade rumors had Odorizzi going to us on a three year deal.
  19. I feel like Bauer is going to be difficult to land. I don't love Tanka or Odorizzi on multi year deals. I'm not sure why you are convinced Morton won't come here. Robert Murray is reporting the Blue Jays "love" Springer. I've come around a bit on Springer. I mean he's a fantastic player. If we somehow got springer go get Morton, Paxton or Kluber. Overpay for a one year deal. The starting pitching market is insane next year. I'd rather overpay on a one year than give multi year deals to tanaka or Odorizzi.
  20. Ryu players on the market......Bauer, Realmuto, Springer, LeMahieu I would put Morton in this category for 1 year as well. You could make arguments for Ozuna and Turner to be close to that level. There really aren't a lot of options. I would be happy to get any one those 7. They could be looking at the trade market for that one guy though.
  21. mlb trade rumors had him at 2 and 14 so 2 and 16 sounds fine. I'd even give him a 3rd year vesting option. It's easy for me to spend Rogers money though!
  22. This feels like a good weekend to go out and sign Trevor Rosenthal. Atkins, go get it done!
  23. What did he do? He opted out because of covid? If the players had just agreed to the deal the owners put forth, which was almost exactly what was implemented he would have got his service time. Instead he rehabbed and got his service time to be a free agent and opted out because of family members that were apparently higher risk for covid. I said before the season started anyone who opts out because of Covid is fine with me. That was a personal choice.
  24. So how much does Kirby Yates get? Can't be that much. On a side note, I may have a problem. Every player with big injury risk that might come at a big discount seems appealing to me
  25. Maybe we should use Martin at 3rd or Centre and go all in on pitching. He's only one week younger than Vlad.
