Personally I think we should move towards allowing and regulating PEDs so they can be used openly and safely with the assistance of physicians. Every sport in the world has a PED issue at this point, although it varies by degrees. I can tell you that there is obviously a lot of doping going on in tennis and soccer. The reason is that there is too much money in sport for players to pass up any opportunity to improve.
I don't think the Yankees are that dumb. They didn't let Cano go just to pay Reyes 22 m to play a mediocre 2B. I'd rather just take a shot on Utley for 2 months to see if he could have one last hurrah hitting in Yankee Stadium, then reevaluate in the offseason.
I am just thinking that it is similar to the Yunel Escobar situation, who was suspended by the Blue Jays, not by the MLB. Besides, I'd be mad at the MLB if they could suspend players for this because they could have spared us countless JPA at bats.
The referees have received suspensions for the extremely bizarre incidents like that. Overall the referees in soccer are far worse than the umpires in baseball, partly because there is no instant replay helping them and partly because there is a strong (and probably ongoing) tradition of match-fixing.
