Good god, why do you care this much about such a minor move?
Nobody here is parading Pillar leaving, but a fan can be mildly delighted to watch some new faces in a s***** rebuilding year. At the end of the day this move doesn't matter.
For sure, and I can see your point. His second half was much better than his first and he was raking in the spring so I dont have a problem giving him a shot this quick. He still has options too if he does blow.
Playing a corner outfield spot shouldn't be hard for most of these guys, so if injuries pile up you can start to shift utility players out there. There probably isnt even a drop off for a guy like Travis, Drury or Gurriel in left from Teoscar. Even if it is we're gonna win about 70 games this year, we don't have that much to lose in that situation. A trade for Pillar may not even be on the table in a couple of months if a team like the Giants find someone else, or Pillar continues to decline rapidly
From a viewing standpoint I think it is pretty easy to like this move. For most of us that tune in every night watching someone like Alford learn and grow is worth watching and something different and exciting for this young team.
I understand Pillar still brought some value, and moving forward as a depth piece he could still fill a role, but watching the 3 pitch K's in the dirt and first pitch pop ups just gets tiring. When it comes down to it, watching Alford have a great game is a lot more rewarding for a fan than Pillar having a good game, and in a season like this I'll take those small wins
Anyone remember the playing days of one Jason Phillips?
This dude miraculously was able to accumulate -1.5 fWAR is only 80 games played for the jays across 2 seasons
Honestly even if we got $5 of Intl money for Pillar I'd consider it a win from a viewing perspective. I know he has the potential to be a useful 4th OF but good christ I can't watch those at bats anymore. Give me Anthony
Fair enough I was going to suggest a small wager on that 69.5
I think that range you suggested is pretty accurate, I'm cautiously optimistic Charlie's Rays/analytics approach will lead us to a mid-high 70's win total
Be careful with Uber Eats they have some weird glitch where you dont have to confirm the order for it to be processed. My girlfriend was ordering some sushi and we needed to check what her mom wanted before we placed the order through so we put our stuff in and then minimized the app to text her mom, 10 minutes later they said our order was confirmed without her clicking anything. We tried to cancel immediately and they wanted to charge us $60. Then I googled it and found out it happened to a bunch of people. I like skip way better
I dont think Alford's play would be the deciding factor in a Pillar trade. As soon as they get something the perceive as decent value he'll be gone, even if Alford is injured
