    hows this: pitcher and catcher have a little smartwatch-like device with a polarized screen that can only be viewed from head on so no one can see it except the person looking right at it. It can be set up before-hand for all the pitches the pitcher has available. The catcher presses a button for the pitch type, then the interface changes to a picture of the strike zone and he selects a location either on the plate or off it. So I guess there would be 25 possible locations - the standard 9 quadrants of the strike zone, as well as a square in each area around the zone to indicate you want a ball in that area. The pitch and location show up on the pitcher's watch and he either shakes or nods to confirm like always. Could easily be reversed to let pitchers call their own game.

    YES!!! Let the players vote on big awards like MVP, Cy Young, and Hall of Fame. If anyone knows who's good or not, it's the players. That's probably what they said about the writers way back in the day but they have proved they don't have a clue

    The most interesting part of the Giles bit was that he said he was not interested in negotiating a multiyear deal here at this point. He said he just wanted to make sure they got the one year deal done and that's it. Not that I want to extend him or anything, but it's interesting that it seems like he wants to test free agency

    We could require him to opt in as a condition of the trade, could we not? Not really different from requiring an extension to be signed as a condition of a trade which happens frequently enough

    I guess i am being cynical, for all I know shes been spending the last 5 years learning all about crazy next level sports medicine s***. It still seems like a weird skill set for a coach. If you told me she was the first female assistant GM I would say that makes way more sense.

    Seems like a PR move unfortunately. Her qualifications are that she played first base in softball..? She started as a baseball ops intern but now suddenly shes an on field coach specializing in "high performance" and promoting a team atmosphere.. That's pretty nebulous. A high performance coach should be a kinesiology person not someone who played a kind of similar sport at a way lower level once upon a time. A team atmosphere can be promoted by everyone and doesnt need a specialized coach. I cant see a world where the best athletes in the world have anything to gain from this person. A man with those credentials would never be given an mlb coaching role like this

    It's possible to be mad at both. In the case of the tanking we are really just mad at the front office. The cheating was done by our beloved players, not nerds in the baseball ops department, thats why its worse

    Yeah, the idea of "stressful innings" seems to be a real thing in terms of fatigue. It's possible they would rather keep him in less stressful situations on average to start his MLB career off. However I'd argue we want him to get as much experience facing top tier hitters as possible so we want to avoid using Nate with an opener.

    Players in arbitration are not guaranteed their salaries unless it is specified in their contract. I can't see any reason why atkins would specially write that in for Drury after he just said hes gonna have to fight for playing time

    So that 3rd year is worth a max 3 million and only vests if he plays 50 games. He probably only exercises it if he falls off a cliff performance wise

    There was a white girl, an Asian girl and an Arab girl all shooting the s*** and hanging out like total bros in the ROM. You NEVER see that in Saskatoon. It's like 1930 here. Whites with whites. Asians with asians. Theres no diversity at all. How anyone could defend this place is so bizarre to me

    I live in saskatoon Came to toronto for a week. The people there, the culture; everything about toronto is so much better. The west is full of a bunch of conservative redneck farmers and it's honestly terrible. And I agree that NOTHING happens here. The most exciting thing to happen here was the Tool concert in 2007
