  1. All I said back in June/July was the Gibson signing by the Orioles was pretty good considering his performance at that time and given it was only a 1-year contract at $10M so very little risk and the Orioles didn't have to sign a similar arm to 3 years around $60M like the Jays did with Bassitt. As for Bassitt, Jays had to slightly overpay for a 34-35 year old starter at 20M per season. Never said anything bad about Bassitt's performance. He's been great for them this season. I remember I suggested the Jays make a trade for Arenado, and some responses were like "The Jays can't take on his payroll in 2024 and 2025." So yeah Bassitt at $20M does take up a chunk of the payroll if we're worried about the Jays being close to their payroll threshold where they can't add another top player. Hopefully he continues to pitch well in Year 2 and 3 of his contract.
  2. Yeah you make a good point Mike. The plus with Swanson is the years of control, but a team contending for a World Series in 2023 shouldn't have to trade one of their big bats for a non-closing reliever during the offseason. I still think it's a solid trade overall long term, but not calling it "excellent" by any means.
  3. You just perfectly described yourself, Brownie and Metafour! You three are the most condescending posters on this board. Regardless, I'm done arguing with you three about the front office. I don't want to read your essays where you all three try to defend and justify the FO on signing Tapia and Zimmer. It's too much!
  4. Yeah the trade is done now. Swanson has done a solid job and has added stability to the pen. Will be nice to have him for another two seasons. If he can stay healthy and be a 1-2 WAR reliever, nothing to complain about at all.
  5. Do you think the Yankees care? I know penalties are harsher now yes. If it means signing one of the best players of this century like Ohtani and winning a World Series, I don't think they would care.
  6. Talk about someone with thin skin haha.
  7. Lol you guys have thin skin. I'm pretty much treated like a troll according to you guys if I question anything about this front office. Your responses are very condescending which is why I can't debate or have discussion with you, Brownie and Metafour. I disagree with a lot of other posters on here regarding some things, but at least they're not condescending as you three. Spanky, Hurl, Terminator, L54, Laika, BTS, etc. They actually have discussions and aren't condescending at all even if we disagree on something.
  8. The issue with you and some of the other members in your homer brigade is that you treat prominent posters who actually make rational criticisms about this team or FO as idiots or morons. Like if I say anything negative or even question anything, you and your brigade come out and attack like cockroaches. It's insufferable man. You treat me and some others like we're trolls who only say negative things about this team which isn't true. If I even say something positive about Atkins or the front office, my words get turned around and guys like Metafour feel the urge to still defend the FO lol. It's hilarious. Again, Atkins has done a real solid job while he's been here. Not debating that. I've even said if the Jays miss the Postseason in 2023, he should be given another crack at it in 2024. Has he been exceptional? You can argue given the results to this point, expectations have not been met and he hasn't taken this team to the next level. Those are the facts lol. And obviously with that being the case, there are some areas he could be criticized on, as with every GM and front office in the league. The difference is posters like you, Metafour, Max continue to all wear blinders.
  9. Jay, I never criticized the trade. It's still a great trade. Just said it would have been nice to have Teo's bat this season. They did a great job using that money in adding KK. Jays likely took a bit of a hit in 2023 in terms of value but long term if Swanson is a 1-2 WAR reliever and Macko contributes something, it's a great deal for the Jays. I wouldn't say it's "excellent" until we see what Swanson and Macko do in 2024 and 2025.
  10. Yup I never said anything bad about the trade at all, even at the time. All I said was that given the Jays offensive struggles this season, Teo's bat would have still been great to have. But for me saying that, it's hilarious how you feel the need to rush in to defend Atkins and the FO on the trade, when I never even said anything bad about them or that trade.
  11. Forgot about him completely.
  12. Can't complain with the results Bassitt has given the Jays. He's been a really solid middle of the rotation piece. Hope he can keep this up in Year 2 and 3.
  13. Meh bad contracts don't hurt the Yankees as they do other teams. They have an unlimited payroll. Adding Ohtani along with some other roster moves likely makes them one of the favourites in the AL East. In Ohtani, they address both their lineup and rotation. Just for fun what their rotation and lineup would look like with Ohtani: Rotation: Cole Ohtani Rodon Cortes German/Severino/Schmidt/Montas/King Lineup (in no particular order): LeMahieu Judge Ohtani Torres Stanton Rizzo Dominguez Volpe Catcher
  14. I'm still hoping he is a 4-5 outfielder for this team in 2024 and 2025. Willing to give him a mulligan on this season, but if he struggles again in 2024, he might only be just a 2-3 WAR outfielder and not as good as we all thought. Even in 2022, you can find some concerns with his bat.
  15. Good point. Jays probably didn't want someone as raw and inexperienced as Alek Thomas, and preferred a bat who had success at the MLB level. Arizona wanted another MLB bat to replace the offensive contributions they would lose from Varsho. LGJ was expendable.
  16. Jay, the Yankees don't care about their payroll. Money and the luxury tax aren't issues for their ownership. They'll spend anything. Given their disappointing season, the Yankees will make a huge splash whether it's Ohtani or someone else. Ohtani in a Yankees uniform would be huge. TV contracts, marketing, jersey sales, the hype in NYC. That bat with the short porch in RF. Pairing Ohtani with Judge in their lineup. Having Ohtani pitching with Cole as a 1-2 punch. Yankees definitely benefit a lot from him.
  17. Lmao, it's hilarious how you guys come out like cockroaches when someone criticizes Atkins and this front office on something. You both really need to chill and stop pretending Atkins is all Godly as a GM. I've praised Atkins here on many occasions and have said he's done a solid job as a GM. Again, you're making me seem like I hate him and the FO given that I've criticized them on a couple of things. Atkins has done a really solid job putting together competitive teams during his tenure. Hasn't taken this team yet to the next level however but he still has time to do so.
  18. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you on this issue. You're obviously out here guns blazing in defending Atkins and the front office 100% of the time and on Tapia/Zimmer and Biggios/Espinal. You're too much man. Just admit it's an area Atkins and the front office could have done better with. I recall Tapia was playing pretty much all season last year, including playing a pivotal role in Game 2 of the WC matchup. As for Biggio and Espinal, they've been given plenty of time to prove themselves this season. Upgrades on one or both of them at the trade deadline would have been nice. Especially with Bo and Chapman now out. Glad that the Buffalo guys have come in and contributed, but we can't rely or expect a bunch of AAA guys to carry this lineup. The bullpen early in 2021 really cost them, but don't want to bring that up.
  19. Dodgers and Yankees IMO are still the heavy favourites. Other secondary teams with a small chance include the Mariners, Mets, Angels, Giants, Red Sox. I would throw the Jays maybe behind those teams. Maybe the Braves if AA wants to go all in haha.
  20. Yeah if he continues to hit like he has been, there could be a team that offers him a 2 or 3 year deal. Don't think a one-year deal signs him anymore. Unless it's $18-20M. We'll also see how the corner OF market shapes up. Teo would have been a perfect bat for this lineup at the trade deadline. Has had success here in Toronto and in their clubhouse, has put up some big months here and was a fan favourite. It's too bad Seattle wasn't selling him but oh well. I still like Swanson and the job he has done here, plus the years of control. But a part of me still misses Teo and when you look at the Jays struggles this season, Teo might have had a larger overall impact on the team this season.
  21. Meh when you're still giving guys like Tapia and Zimmer a lot of at-bats last season and this season Biggio and Espinal, it's fair to question the lack of depth in some areas on the roster. Plus I don't want to bring up 2021. Luckily a lot of guys from Buffalo have been producing up here in the absence of Chapman and Bo. Not sure how long that lasts but let's keep riding their hot bats for as long as we could! As for the bullpen, Atkins has built a very deep bullpen this season so kudos to him and the front office. Richards and Francis have been great! Still a little worried if they have to close out a 2-1 or 3-2 game starting from the 5th inning on, but every bullpen isn't perfect.
  22. Yup turned out to be a great deal. Tellez has been awful with the Brewers and Richards/Francis have been big pieces down in the pen this season.
  23. Rangers are in free fall mode. Mariners recently as well have come back down to earth. Heck lost a couple of parlays with the Mariners and I was like WTF haha. The one team I actually worry about would be the Yankees who are 7-3 in their last 10 and have won 4 straight. They could go on a run and close the gap. However I think they dug themselves too far in a hole a couple weeks ago. Though still they have 6 games against the Jays so that series will be important.
  24. You should be good haha.
