  1. He's also a guy who outpreformed his FIP 4 of the last 5 years. Some guys do buck their FIP consistently.
  2. Agreed. Certainly not necessary to give him 3 years, but there is something to be said for not having to scrounge for bench players every year. The salary makes it a non issue.
  3. Hey Daryl overlords, could I get a clarification on the order of operations at the start of the season. I'm facing an MiLB roster crunch but I'm not sure how the process unfolds step by step. When do the following deadlines fall (more what order than exact dates), and is there any time between them for MiLB promotions? - Final Designation of Keeper players - 'Start' of the yahoo season (ie when you can't have more than 12 prospects) - Waiver Draft
  4. What, his .216 BABIP isn't his norm going forward?
  5. If Ruiz ends us getting 20M/2 with an options, you just have to weigh the 'value' of the prospect they want back. He's projected as a 3 WAR player next year, probably something similar in 2015. Hanigan is projected for 2.3 WAR next year and is a little younger. He is controllable for the next 2 years at 2.3M (projected) and something more than that for his final (4-5M depending on his season?). Add the value of whatever prospect you trade. The prospect is the key.
  6. Carlos.... it just makes sense.
  7. Blow it up! Jose Reyes to the Cards for Oscar + a pitcher (I sort of doubt it, but maybe that story was right) Jose Bautista to the Rangers for Profar + prospect(s) Edwin Encarnacion to the Nats for Anthony Rendon + Giolito (maybe?) Cassey Jannssen+ to the Tigers for Rick Porcello Signs Rasmus to a decent deal or trade him and play Gose Trade JPA for ******** (even literally) Sign a FA starter and Ruiz with the money we just saved C - Ruiz 2B - Rendon SS - Profar 3B - Lawrie LF - Melky CF - Rasmus RF - Taveras DH - Lind and Baker SP's - Dickey, Shelby or Martinez (from Cards), FA starter, Morrow, Behurle, Porcello SP depth - Stroman, Sanchez, Giolito Pen still in shape. Still need a 1B. I'd love to expand the cards deal to get Adams too, but I don't think we have much other than Reyes they want. Total for the year is quite a bit less than this year (~115M depending who the FA starter is). Much better long term outlook.
  8. We 100% need to keep Stroman and Sanchez... we need some home grown pitching talent with #2 ceilings once our entire roster's contracts wrap up. Bautista, EE, Mark B, Romero, Melky, Morrow, Dickey, Rasmus, Lind, Izturis, Happ, Jannssen, Santos... ALL potentially gone in 2015 (some if we WANT them gone). We need a base to build from when that happens.
  9. I don't see how that is being pedantic at all. Nor did i say it was some uber market inefficiency to exploit. You're the one who was making a statement about the trade market being an efficient market and it quite simply isn't that either. Its a really variable market in terms of efficiency.
  10. Using that logic, no trade makes sense. No team should feel good after they trade for David Price because when they do, it will be the case that every other team thought the cost was too great... so they overpaid. That's not how it works.
  11. Get this done MLB/NPB... my DDL team and its #2 waiver pick depend on it.
  12. Part of the appeal of deals like this is that you would have Profar AND Taveras (who is ready) that can jump into the MLB immediately.
  13. This is when a team needs to s*** or get off the pot. Nothing good can come from 'half trying' to contend. We need to spend more cash or rebuild ASAP. The 'all-in' could have worked if we had a Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow who were any good. If we don't spend to fill those gaps, its time to trade Reyes, EE, and Bautista, which would get us a s*** LOAD.
  14. I've been one of the milder critiques of AA lately... but if his philosophy is being reported accurately, that's just f***ed. Hanigan is worth nothing. We better not trade anything for him. Samardzija is a decent asset, but trading a ton of surplus value in Stroman or Sanchez makes it almost impossible to get value out of him.
  15. This puts Hurl in a very precarious position
  16. Whats with the Weaver comp tho? Did Weaver ever have that kind of heat?
  17. A fair and realistic floor if I've ever seen one.
  18. I really want Ruiz.
  19. Small trade in the DDL; To OppoTaco; Randall Delgado, MiLB Pick #83 To z3r0s; MiLB pick #31
  20. Man I hate twitter.
  21. Being uber pessimistic about the team seems to be the 'in' thing on the board right now. We're not in a great spot by any means, but its not an end of the world type situation.
