Cool article... just one comment, You have the lower values highlighted for the K%RMSE vs xK%RMSE but the row for N = 116 is mis-bolded. .0354 vs .0345
I am uber impressed that you guys are getting all these shout outs. I know the content is great (as I've read it all), but its a different accolade that you got your brand 'out there' so quickly.
I don't for the life of me understand Drew's logic in declining the QC (unless he really didn't like playing in Boston, hard to believe).
He won't come close to the AAV he would with the QC and he has an injury history that would scare clubs off offering him many years anyway. I could totally see him signing back with Boston for considerably less than his QC Salary would have been. His FA stock is hurt big-time by the a QC for every club but the Bo-Sox. I have a feeling they are going to have big leverage over him.
Alvarez is still just as odd a pitcher as he was with the Jays. He put up a great FIP last year, but at the end of the day he's still a 5 K/9 player. Playing for the Fish will help him, but a 2.6% HR/FB not likely repeatable.
You think they need to eat that kind of Money to trade Mauer? He's still good for a .370+ wOBA yearly (maybe even better now that he's not catching). There is also nothing saying 100% that he can't catch for a year or two more. MIN just can't afford to have him miss any time because he's the only bat they have.
I'd say there would be a pretty good market for Mauer.
I'm actually interested if a front office has every used a forum for 'crowd sourcing' ideas. Even if the majority of ideas a s*** (which I don't think its the case on this forum), you'd think to occasional idea that you never thought of would be worth the time of a front office having some intern scan a board. It would be literal hours of free labour that could be skimmed through rather easily.
Nice recent article using TIPS on the FA pitchers. I didn't realize that all the metrics loved Kazmir so much last year. Definitely higher on my FA wishlist now.
