The Lansing Lugnuts left-handed pitcher has succeeded in doing that. The 22-year old Perdomo has flourished on the mound in his first full season of professional baseball. And Perdomo’s success led to earning Midwest League all-star honors last month and recently resulted in being selected to participate in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday at Petco Park in San Diego. Pedromo was added to the World roster for the contest, which showcases minor league talent and kicks off Major League Baseball’s all-star festivities. “I’m extremely happy,” Perdomo said through a translator prior to the Lugnuts’ 2-1 victory over the Lake County Captains on Friday. “It’s a great honor and I had no idea I would be getting selected for this.” Perdomo, who is one of two players representing the Toronto Blue Jays in the Futures Game, worked his way to landing a spot in the contest. He has been one of the toughest pitchers to hit against in all of minor league baseball this season. Midwest League hitters have hit just .183 against the 6-foot-6 Perdomo, who is rated the Blue Jays’ No. 23 prospect by MLBPipeline.com. Lugnuts catcher Justin Atkinson and teammates have noticed opposing hitters having problems picking up the release point and the ball out of Perdomo’s hand. “We always joke around that Perdomo has like an invisi-ball,” Atkinson said. “Like no one can hit it. We’re always wondering what’ll he do different than everybody else. Obviously when you look at him, he’s like 6-7, 6-8 and a left-handed pitcher. Those aren’t easy to find. Obviously coming from the Dominican, he’s put in a lot of work since he’s come to America. I saw him progress a lot last year when we were in Vancouver together and (he was) throwing hard. “He’s come here and he’s just continued to do that. His work ethic is top notch. It shows with the recognition. He’s been an all-star and he’s going to the Futures Game now." Perdomo, who is 2-3 with a 2.71 earned run average with 93 strikeouts in 73 innings, hopes to continue making progress on the mound and perfecting his delivery. And Perdomo hopes he will have the opportunity to show what he can do Sunday against some of the top talent in the minors. “I want to show off my ability,” Perdomo said. “I want to go out there and make myself known and show off the hard work I’ve put in and hopefully have some success out there too.”

It pits some of the top prospects in all of baseball against one another in a U.S. vs. the World Junior All-Star Game. And unlike the actual All-Star Game, the participants here are hungry. It should be a big event. It should be the annual Gateway Game for casual fans to get to know the next generation of stars. Stars who are not several years away, but who may contribute to playoff runs this season and will certainly become big names in the seasons to come. Except everyone misses it because they play it on Sunday when actual major league games are taking place, including a nationally-televised game between the Diamondbacks and the Giants and all manner of non-baseball Sunday night prestige TV on various cable channels tonight. Moreover, many members of the media who might cover it are en route to San Diego after covering their team’s Sunday games and will miss it too, giving the game less exposure than it might otherwise get. It’s just bad scheduling, really. They should play it on Monday, do the Home Run Derby on Tuesday and the All-Star Game on Wednesday. Or, if they want to keep the same general schedule, do the Future’s Game and Derby back-to-back on Monday, giving it a spotlight. Oh well, I make that complaint every year and no one listens, so maybe next year I’ll stop bothering to make it. That bit of grumpiness aside, this year’s Futures Game gets underway at 7pm this evening, 4PM Pacific, here at Petco Park. It will be televised on MLB Network and able to be streamed on MLB.com. You may know some of them, you may not. But if not, you will know some of them soon. Last year’s Futures Game showed that the future really does come at you fast, given that guys like Kyle Schwarber, Michael Conforto, Ketel Marte, and Trea Turner participated. Give the Dbacks and Giants a miss. Also give a miss to the prestige TV. Go to MLB.com or MLB Network and watch the Futures Game instead. Even if Major League Baseball wants to keep it a secret for some reason.

In the middle contest of a three-game series at Coca-Cola Field, Buffalo was held to just four hits, coupled with three home runs by Lehigh Valley. A big five-run top of the second inning gave the IronPigs a comfortable lead, while lefty James Russell tossed six-shutout innings in the contest. Two of Russell's three wins at Triple-A this season have come against the Herd. Cam Perkins took Bisons' starter Scott Diamond deep in the bottom of the second, knocking a two-out line-drive shot off the left field foul pole, putting Lehigh Valley up 1-0. Emmanuel Burriss continued the two out magic for the IronPigs, driving home Brock Stassi with a RBI single. To cap off the inning, Taylor Featherston connected for a three run home run, his 11th of the year. "The last time [Diamond] faced these guys at their place they hit him around there too," Bisons' manager Gary Allenson said postgame. Diamond allowed eight earned runs in a loss to the IronPigs on June 18. "He just had that mulligan inning, two outs and nobody on. I think he got away from his changeup, maybe went to his curveball a little too much." Diamond settled down after his 37-pitch second inning, not allowing a hit from the third to the fifth inning, before Darin Ruf doubled to begin the sixth. On a single by Cam Perkins later in the inning, Bisons' centerfielder Dalton Pompey threw Ruf out at home plate attempting to score. The Bisons' starter left after allowing five earned runs in 6.0 innings of work, and falls to 6-8 on the year. In the bottom of the first, Bisons' leftfielder Darrell Ceciliani ripped a line drive to center, out of the reach of a sliding Darnell Sweeney. Two batters later, Jesus Montero gave a Russell pitch a drive to left center, which stayed in the park for a long, inning-ending out. Tony Sanchez doubled to lead off the bottom of the third, but was stranded at third when James Russell fanned Ceciliani, ending the inning. Phil Klein entered in the bottom of the seventh, and benefitted from a sparkling play from his third baseman, Taylor Featherston. Casey Kotchman chopped a line drive to third, which Featherston dove to stop, and fired a strong throw to first, retiring the side. In the top of the ninth, J.P. Crawford made it 9-0 with a three-run home run off Colt Hynes, drilling a ball over the right-centerfield wall in the pouring rain, which began to fall in the late innings. The Herd showed some life in the bottom of the ninth, as Matt Dominguez drilled his second-straight ninth inning home run in as many days. "It was probably a moot point, that courtesy solo homer by Matt Dominguez in the ninth inning," Allenson said. "Last night it was a little closer, and tonight it wasn't very close. A delay followed the Dominguez' blast, which resulted in an early stoppage of play with one out in the bottom of the ninth. The ninth inning rain delay was the first at Coca-Cola Field this season. The Bisons now fall further back in the IL North, trialing Rochester, Lehigh Valley, and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the division. "I think we found out in the last week and a half that Scranton and Lehigh Valley are significantly better than us right now," Allenson said postgame. "We have to have our A-game working from all three spots, our pitching, hitting and defense, and were not getting it done right now. We still have about 50 games to go, but we're dropping back, and we need to start turning it around." The Bisons' last game before the All-Star break will take place on Sunday at 1:05 p.m from Coca-Cola Field. (July 9, 2016) - The Fort Myers Miracle clocked three home runs en route to a 6-2 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Hammond Stadium on Saturday night. The Miracle tagged Dunedin starter Brad Allen for a pair of runs in the first inning. With one out, A.J. Murray reached first on a base on balls. Nick Gordon then smacked a single into center field and Murray moved up to second. After Trey Vavra struck out, LaMonte Wade scalded a ground ball that bounced through the legs of Ryan McBroom at first base. The error allowed Murray to score from second and Gordon to advance to third. With runners on the corners, Joe Maloney pulled a single into left to plate Gordon, 2-0. In the top of the second, the D-Jays tied the game. Miracle starter Sam Clay gave up a pair of singles to McBroom and Gunnar Heidt to start the frame. Dickie Joe Thon's fly out to right advanced McBroom to third. With runners on the corners, Reeves singled to center to pick up an RBI and plate McBroom. Michael De La Cruz followed with a knock to right and Heidt crossed home, 2-2. The next three Miracle runs were scored on solo homers.
