July 2, 2016 - International Free Agent Signing Period
King replied to Krylian's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-sign-13-july-2-international-free-agents/ TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays have signed 13 July 2 international free agents including two for the maximum $300,000 they can spend on a single player this season, shortstop Hugo Cardona and third baseman/outfielder Joseph Reyes. Right-handed Roither Hernandez, who landed $150,000, and shortstop Kenny Mauricio, who gets $110,000, are the other notables among the group. Assistant general manager Andrew Tinnish, who oversees the club’s international scouting, said in an interview “I would expect us to have a handful more, we’re still finalizing some things.” The Blue Jays are in the penalty this year for exceeding their international signing bonus pool last year to land Vladimir Guerrero Jr., for $3.9 million. This year, they have a pool of $2,100,200 to work with, but in being limited to a maximum of $300,000 per player, they were essentially cut off from the top-end of the market. Their penalty ends signing period thanks to a trade the Blue Jays made as they signed Guerrero that sent prospects Chase Dejong and Tim Locastro to the Los Angeles Dodgers for three spending slots totalling $1,071,300. That reduced their overage enough to avoid a two-year spending penalty. Cardona, a Venezuelan, attracted the Blue Jays with his premium speed. "He’s an athletic shortstop, a real quick-twitch guy," he said. "A lean wiry frame, he had pretty steady run times in the 6.4-6.5 range with some athleticism and projectable arm strength and hands. He needs a lot of work like a lot of young guys do, but he’s got a chance to stay at short with a plus arm and plus-plus-plus running. More of a line-drive approach over power but he’s got speed to complement that type of approach." Reyes, a native of the Dominican Republic who spent some time in New York and speaks good English, may outgrow third base but the Blue Jays want to give him a shot at the position. "He’s 6-2, 6-3, 185, left-handed hitting infielder," said Tinnish. "He shows an advanced approach at the plate, we saw him against good competition, pitchers throwing anywhere from 87-95 and he had good at-bats, he can recognize spin. There are a lot of ingredients from an offensive perspective that were interesting." Hernandez, an 18-year-old from the Dominican Republic, had been passed over in the past two international signing periods but the Blue Jays see some upside. "He’s a big horse, six-foot-four, 200 pounds, we saw him about a week ago, he was 92-96, good heavy fastball, good delivery," said Tinnish. "Secondary (stuff) needs work, but there’s some power to the slider, the changeup, like a lot of young kids, needs to be refined, but it’s a really good, heavy fastball and he’s a really, really good kid. There’s some good upside to him for sure." -
Cherry picked stat alert, but since the beginning of June Tellez is hitting .347/.448/.571. He can just mash.
-
Ya but his prospect value comes from his bat... 145 wRC+ as a 21 year old in AA.
-
Tellez should definitely get 75-100 consideration. Alford has had a bad season but I could see him still ranking in that area as well.

The Bisons have the RailRiders. Buffalo has won every one of its games since June 20th against opponents other than Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but for the fifth time in as many games against the IL's best, the Herd fell. This time, by a score of 10-0 at PNC Field on Wednesday. Making his fifth career start at the Triple-A level, John Anderson appeared overmatched in his second start against the league's top scoring team. The 27-year-old gave up a run in the first inning and again in the second before the Riders plated five more to chase the lefty with only one out in the third inning. Anderson was in trouble from the get-go but managed to keep it a two-run contest by stranding five runners over the first two frames. However, back-to-back blasts from Tyler Austin and Cesar Puello to start the third inning began to blow the game open. Jake Cave was then hit by a pitch and Jonathan Diaz was issued a one-out free pass before Ben Gamel chopped a single through the right side of the infield to make it 5-0. The next batter, Donovan Solano, banged a double to the wall to bring home both runners, forcing Gary Allenson to go to his relief staff. Buffalo's bullpen went to work the rest of the way and were charged with three runs on eight hits. Bobby Korecky matched his longest outing of the year, hurling 3.2 innings of two-run ball. Chad Girodo worked a scoreless seventh to drop his ERA to 1.59 this season. The Riders reached their final tally on three consecutive two-out singles as Dustin Antolin was tagged with the 10th run. Coming out of the opposing dugout to make his fourth start with the RailRiders was Dietrich Enns. The 19th round pick of the Yankees in 2012 has quietly been making a name for himself as a prospect while on his recent stint with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Enns entered Wednesday's action with a 0.96 ERA and lowered it to 0.70, shutting out the Bisons with five strikeouts across seven innings of two-hit work. The 25-year-old faced one over the minimum through five and a third, before Domonic Brown broke the no-hit bid with a line-drive single. The Herd has been outscored 28-5 by the RailRiders over their last five meetings. BISONS NOTES: Earlier in the day, Bo Schultz was recalled to the Blue Jays...Tony Sanchez drew a walk in the fifth to extend his on-base streak to 21 games…The 17 hits allowed by Buffalo's pitching staff is the most this season…The Herd was shutout for the first time since a 5-0 loss on June 13th to Durham and falls to 10-7 in shutout games…Wednesday's game was the most lopsided loss by the Bisons since a 12-2 defeat at the hands of the Riders at PNC Field on September 3rd of last season. http://i.imgur.com/LJyRFqe.png http://i.imgur.com/ylMarko.png http://i.imgur.com/taoofrp.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/2/4/135807724/cuts/Taylor_Cole_Game_Story_1_Dave_Schofield_e4gx7b0c_rzlhst1r.jpg Manchester, NH - Taylor Cole allowed one run in eight innings on Wednesday night, leading the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 6-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Cole (1-2) recorded the longest outing by a New Hampshire starter this season, allowing only four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out eight. Wil Browning pitched a perfect ninth as the Fisher Cats won for the third straight time in the series. The Fisher Cats (39-47) hit the board in the bottom of the first inning. Roemon Fields singled and moved to second on an errant pick off throw. He advanced to third on a groundout, scoring on a double by Derrick Loveless for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning, Ian Parmley led off with a walk and scored on a double by Jorge Flores. Flores made it 3-0, scoring on a single by Christian Lopes. Portland's Cody Decker homered in the top of the fourth inning, his fourth of the season, to cut the lead to 3-1. The lead grew to 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Flores delivered a run scoring single and another run scored when Portland tried to pick off Flores at first, but Ian Parmley scored ahead of the tag. Emilio Guerrero's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning gave New Hampshire its final run. Portland starter Kevin McAvoy (5-4) worked the first six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs conclude the series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Toronto top prospect Conner Greene (1-0) makes his first home start of the season for New Hampshire as his club looks for a sweep. An Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The result also ended Lansing's season high eight-game home winning streak. Long led off the ninth against Josh DeGraaf (Loss, 4-5) with a single to right field. Kevin Franklin, replacing the ejected James Vasquez, singled Long to second, and both were moved up a base by a Chris Okey sacrifice bunt. With the Lugnuts' infield drawn in, Mardirosian's grounder was gloved by first baseman Juan Kelly, but Long scored ahead of the throw home. Dayton reliever Jesus Reyes (Win, 4-1) pitched three scoreless innings of relief, striking out four. Sarkis Ohanian struck out the side in the ninth for his fifth save. Before the ninth inning, the story of the game was sloppiness. Long, who scored the game-winning run, committed the first of three errors in the first inning, leading to two Lansing unearned runs. The Dragons tied the game in the fourth on a Brantley Bell two-run single before taking the lead in the fifth on a throwing error by Lansing shortstop Aaron Attaway. But the Lugnuts squared the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, as Long threw away a potential double play ball while John La Prise came in from third. La Prise led Lansing's offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Both Carl Wise and Juan Tejada added two-hit nights, and Lansing starter Jon Harris struck out eight batters in seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned. Denis Diaz went 5.0 IP to pick up his first win on the year, while Connor Eller pitched the rest of the game to earn his first professional save. Luis Mora fell to (0-3) on the season, picking up the loss for the Braves. Making his first start since April 21, the 28-year-old held the Red Wings to just one run over six innings of work, striking out five batters along the way. Though the focus was mainly on the left-hander and his fourth start with the Herd this season, a total team effort from Buffalo led to an impressive 8-1 win over Rochester at Frontier Field Tuesday evening. The victory was Lawrence's first ever at the Triple-A level. Seven different Buffalo batters picked up an RBI, led by a pair from Darrrell Ceciliani who had three hits, a walk and came around to score twice. Matt Dominguez had hit first four-hit game of the season, two of which were doubles, to bring his average up to .282. The Bisons got the offense going in the top of the third as seven consecutive batters reached base to start the inning. Ceciliani drew a walk and came all the way around to score as David Adams bounced a double into the left-field corner. Singles from Dominguez and Jesus Montero were followed up by walks to Domonic Brown and Melky Mesa, making it a 3-0 game while bringing an end to Andrew Albers' night. The exit of Rochester's lefty brought an end to a streak of 57 games in which the Wings have gotten at least five innings of work out of their starter. Casey Kotchman then picked up a free pass from reliever Nick Greenwood to push Buffalo's lead to four. A 5-2 double play and a fielder's choice groundout brought an end to the inning, but not the Bisons' attack. The Herd added a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 6-0. Tony Sanchez walked and touched home a batter later as Alexi Casilla hammered a ball off of the center-field wall for a double. Ceciliani then traded places with the shortstop, keeping his hard grounder inside the first base bag for his first of two doubles on the night. Rochester scored its only run off of Lawrence with a single and a double in the sixth. Buffalo tacked on two more in the top of the eighth, as Casilla was once more driven in by Ceciliani. Dominguez's 11th double of the year chauffeured home the left fielder to cap the Herd's run total at eight. Franklin Morales threw another clean inning for the Bisons as part of his rehab for the Blue Jays in the seventh. Bo Schultz continued the strong pitching performance with a 1-2-3 eighth. The Red Wings made it 8-2 in their final at-bat, using a couple of singles and a ground rule double to tally one more run off of Colt Hynes. The Herd has won 11 of its last 15 games with all four losses coming at the hands of the RailRiders. Buffalo will now head south to take on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a pair of contests starting Wednesday evening. BISONS NOTES: With a single in his first at-bat, Tony Sanchez extended his on-base streak to 20 games…Darrell Ceciliani is now 16-for-43 with eight extra-base hits since being optioned from Toronto…Jio Mier left the game in the middle of the fifth inning, the team has not released the reason why yet…The Herd's road win streak of nine game ties the franchise's modern-era record. The 1985 squad won three separate series on April 17-19, April 28-30, and May 8-11. http://i.imgur.com/btm1CZF.png http://i.imgur.com/67M6Ln4.png http://i.imgur.com/QOgEmGZ.png Manchester, NH - Christian Lopes beat out an infield single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a 6-5, walk-off win over Portland onTuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. With the game tied 5-5, Jason Leblebijian walked to start the bottom of the ninth and moved to second an Emilio Guerrero sacrifice. The Sea Dogs intentionally walked Derrick Loveless, who had homered twice in the contest. Both runners advanced on a deep fly by Shane Opitz ahead of the Lopes winning ground ball. The Fisher Cats (38-47) scored single runs in each of the first three innings. In the first, Lopes singled and scored on a long double to center by Rowdy Tellez. Loveless homered in the second and Roemon Fields singled and scored on a Ryan Lavaranway single in the third for a 3-0 lead. New Hampshire scored again in the fourth inning. Dwight Smith Jr. walked, moved to third on a single by Leblebijian. Guerrero picked up his first RBI of the season for the Fisher Cats with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0. Portland took the lead in the fifth inning. With two outs, Yoan Moncada walked and Mauricio Dubon tripled him home. Andrew Benintendi followed with a home run that ended the night for Fisher Cats starter Jason Berken. Nate Frieman then singled and Sean Coyle homered to put the Sea Dogs up 5-4. Loveless tied the game at 5-5 with his second home run of the game leading off the bottom of the seventh inning for the Fisher Cats. New Hampshire relievers Brady Dragmire, John Stilson and Tim Mayza (1-2) did not allow a baserunner over the final 4.1 innings, retiring 13 straight. Austin Maddox (2-1) took the loss for the Sea Dogs. The Fisher Cats will continue the four-game series with the Portland on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. An Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium presented by the Yard Restaurant. The Lugnuts, who improved to 8-0 against the Dragons in 2016, have not lost a home game since June 17th. Combined with South Bend's 3-1 loss to Fort Wayne, the Nuts moved into a first-place tie atop the Eastern Division. Dayton took a brief 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Kevin Franklin RBI single, only to be swamped by seven quick Lansing runs. In the bottom of the first, Dragons right fielder Reydel Medina committed two errors and Carl Wise and Justin Atkinson knocked RBI singles in a four-run uprising. In the second inning, J.C. Cardenas led off with a single, John La Prise drew a one-out walk, and Kelly followed by drilling his ninth home run of the year to right field. Dayton All-Star Austin Orewiler (Loss, 2-7) allowed seven runs, four earned, on eight hits and a walk in five innings. He was outpitched by Saucedo (Win, 4-7), who pitched six innings and gave up just two runs - one in the first inning, one in the sixth - while walking one and striking out four. Starlyn Suriel pitched the seventh and eighth innings in relief, allowing a Mitch Piatnik home run, and Andrew Case made his Lugnuts return with a perfect ninth, notching a strikeout. Both Wise and Kelly went 2-for-4 to lead Lansing's offense, with La Prise reaching base three times and scoring two runs on a single and two walks. Juan Kelly 2/4 with a home run and a double today.. but of note is that he played 3B. If he could make the move to 3B full time and play acceptable there his prospect value goes up a lot.
