  1. Oh for sure, I have much more faith in Roden figuring it out than Schneider did. Wagner on the other hand, for me in the limited eyeball-in-no-way-professional evaluation.... it's just like he's waiting too long to decide to swing and getting beat by pedestrian 93-94 fastballs because he can't pull the trigger fast enough once he's recognized it's a hittable pitch.
  2. For sure. For Roden, it's very clearly just that ptichers have identified the weaknesses in his swing and are absolutely exploiting it until he shows he can adjust. Same issue Schneider had, he just couldn't adjust to the high heat. With Roden, it's low and breaking.
  3. Types of analysis like this though don't prove themselves to be predictive. These are descriptive markers, that don't really mean anything other than what happened in the past. Trying to drill down the reason why his numbers are better hitting 3rd makes more sense, but that's like trying to ascertain why his wRC+ in May is lower than April... there's no real rhyme or reason to it, most likely. Simply, Vlad has spent the majority of his career hitting 3rd, so... it stands to reason since he is an above average hitter overall that his best results have come hitting 3rd.
  4. Santander career splits my month: Vlad career splits by month
  5. To a point, you're right. It's still frustrating as f*** to watch guys like Vlad, who should be hitting 40 HRs a year by accident, be such a useless tit for such long periods of time. That, and the seeming inability to even swing at centre cut fastballs for every hitter on the team that isn't named Springer. It's like they're never ready to hit mistakes. Reminds me of the old Donaldson approach - plan to swing at every pitch until your eyes tell you not to.
  6. Lowest # of hits as a team in a 3 game series since..... last year.... in Houston.
  7. Well, good to know my feelings are as God awful as always
  8. Feeling a Barger bomb incoming shortly
  9. This series is exactly what everyone saw coming when the pitching has a few bad games, and the offense doesn't show up...at all. Complete and utter unwatchable trash
  10. Popkins does preach the power. he came up through the Dodgers system so i have faith he knows what he wants to do. Its whether or not the players he has are capable. Springer seems to be the only one who's been able to make noticeable approach changes from last year.
  11. Solid right now but yes, it could get worse. It's ace free, but its also dumpster-fire free.
  12. THe lack of a soild 5th starter is nowhere near as important to the current Jays team as hitting the ball over the fence more often. The rotation as a whole is soild, the pen has been pretty dominant. Until they start scoring runs with regularity due to to an amergence of power, the Jays fortunes will rest solely on pitching being hot or cold. Offense is good for 3.5 runs per game right now. That's way too much pressure to put on the staff long term in a league that is largely focused on run producing through SLG.
  13. He was like, the last arm available yesterday. It's almost a blessing he got rocked so the game didn't go any further and completely annihilate the pen
  14. I can't justify a 10m dollar price tag for a 40 year old reliever in my mind. It just doesn't compute. 5? Sure.
  15. This. It was just one of those days where all Schneider could do is use what was available and...the offense couldn't get it done with multiple cracks at walking it off. Eventually, the worst pen arms comes in and shows why he's the low guy on the totem pole and DFA the next day. Its actually pretty refreshing to see the quick triggers on the DFA so far.
  16. Whether he stays here is another question. The league has already figured out the holes in this swing and he hasn't adjusted yet. He's gonna get some time to try and figure it out for sure, but... just like Davis Schneider, if he can't... shuffle back to Buffalo.
  17. Swanson and Burr being injured really made the difference. Those 2 guys being healthy and there isn't a Barnes and Lovelady to start the season. I get people want to stock as much depth as possible and think more signings should have happened... but nobody worth signing was gonna be taking a minor league deal to be depth. Sandlin has been great, Little has been disgusting, and the guys they did sign in Yimi and Hoffman have both been as good as can be expected. Green is Green. Add in a healthy Burr, Swanson and Yariel and there's not even room to sign another solid mid to upper pen guy Pen is nearly tops in the big leagues. Yes, some regression may be coming from a couple guys, but even a bit of regression leaves them in a great spot. Sandlin's injury sucks though. Those lats always take forever
  18. This is the prototypical "good news, bad news" situation.
  19. I'm sure there were a ton of people who didn't really care about Little or Sandlin too. Hell, Atkins has literally rebuilt the pen in one offseason from lowest whiff rate to highest. It's hard to be completely upset that the shittiest guy blew a game because the top two guys weren't available, and everyone else did their job well prior to him.coming in, but the offense couldn't push one run across in the 35 chances they had to do it. That said, I really don't want to see Barnes again. Like...ever
  20. His rumoured asking price was/is 10 million. Think that's worth the gamble? I'm not sure tbh.
  21. First guy I thought of was Robert Person, but that would be a really obscure pick, so I'm gonna say Escobar also
  22. Its not everyday you score 10 runs in the 8th inning and lose.
  23. Is it just me or does it seem like every first hit given up by Francis in a game is a HR? 1st inning, 9th inning... doesn't matter lol
  24. So you're saying the Mariners are due to break out offensively any day now? Great. If the Mariners get hot with the sticks we all get to blame Grant.
