  1. Players don't have loyalty except to the club who writes them the biggest check and offers them the best chance, in their own opinion, to win. No player owes it to the club to resign at a discount, and no club owes players anything other than the money thye agreed to pay them. Should Bautista be approached about waiving his no trade clause because the Jays were offered a deal they would lunatics to turn down... that's part of business. He would be free to feel insulted and maybe would impact clubhouse chemistry, but that's why the FO has their jobs, they have to judge whether that's worth the risk. If Washington offered Giolito and Turner, Bautista would be in the office having a conversation before the phone disconnected.
  2. http://m.milb.com/news/article/20160727192143574/alford_starts_showing_jays_something_extra Nice read on Alford. Credits Travis and Colabello with some timing help while they were rehabbing
  3. 2 of Giolito/Turner/Robles/Lopez plus Kieboom (name alone is 2 WAR) or gtfo
  4. The Dr. Dinger curse begins...
  5. TODAY, 10:00am: The Giants are still in “active talks” with San Diego regarding Cashner, Morosi tweets, so evidently the market for his services remains wide open. YESTERDAY, 8:05pm: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (via Twitter) that clubs eyeing Cashner wanted to see him pitch one more time before deciding whether to meet the Padres’ asking price. Cashner got off to a rocky start when he walked Jose Bautista and gave up a two-run homer to Josh Donaldson, but he recovered quite well, finishing the evening with three runs allowed on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings.

  8. This thread has taken a significantly bad turn
  9. That's the type I would expect from a normal team, but given that Shatkins just robbed them of Upton for peanuts...you never know
  10. Speculating on the return for te padres...what do you think the return would be like? Something like Rios maybe?
  11. Travis Donaldson Bautista RF Edwin 1b Saunders DH Tulo Upton LF Martin Pillar Seems about right to me.
  12. Possibly, but I doubt that
  13. I have to think there would be no purpose in having him pitch tonight against the Jays. If they're anywhere close to a deal, he will most definitely be skipped
  14. Nothing wrong with this deal at all. I would have been happy paying more for him and still giving up Hansel, 5 million for more than 1 year of Upton is perfectly acceptable.
  15. I think the rash of pitching injuries these days is far more related to how much these kids are pitching as kids rather than what they're doing as adults. Putting their arms through the ringer while they are still developing physically is not a good idea
  16. He also threw 100 mph when drafted, was only in the minorsless than 2 years, put up video game numbers and was in the majors by the age of 22. Not exactly the case with Barnes.
  17. I'm okay with this deal even of the Jays end up with a 12 million dollar Upton for next year. Though this likely means Saunders is gone chances are he wouldn't have been back anyways
  18. It wasn't as overpriced as I thought it would be for the normal menu, but table 23 is his own table with its own pre-determined menu for a table of 6 and yes, it was crazy. It was a business dinner for my wife and some clients so the company is getting the bill. 4 course meal served by the chef himself with different wine and beer pairings for each course and finished with 23 layer chocolate cake. It was an insane amount of food.
  19. Well, one of the counterpoints to your opinion would be that you just posted a list of backups or platoon targets with limited upside (Jon jay notwithstanding)whereas Upton is a full time player who, regardless of his 2016 season, still has a track record of skill and value as a full time player and it would not be ludicrous to see there a chance that he can recapture a portion of that. Everyone else on your list really does have limited upside because of their platoon roles and part time status. With Upton, there's actually a chance he could turn back the clock to a point. Not saying he's a 5 WAR candidate, but 2-3 isn't out of the realm of possibility, given that he's amassed 3.1 WAR over his last 600 PA. You can call that recency bias, but completely discounting it because he was legitimately awful in 2013 and 2014 doesn't make any sense either.
  20. Post that list's projections please. I'm curious
  21. Cleveland and the Nationals would really be the only ones that have both the need and the prospects. You could argue that Baltimore could still use an elite reliever like Miller, but they don't have the prospect capital to pull it off especially since they are division rivals. Texas maybe?
