  1. Possible, but perhaps a contender might be looking at Realmuto over Martin first.
  2. I don't think theyre worried about the clock on him when they still have Martin around. It's easy to justify Jansen starting in AAA again next season regardless of a call up this year
  3. Urena, probably McGuire or Jansen (or both?), and likely Mayza, Cumpton, Pannone and Paulino. Hoping to see Alford, but probably DS JR instead
  4. No doubt, but there's massive factors of difference in the game then and the game now. It's not unheard of to be an outlier like Ruth when the entirety if the league is basically a small sample size of players. The talent pool wasn't even a pool, it was a talent puddle. Yes Ruth was better relative to his peers, but when you have like 5% of the peers of today's baseball players, it's far more likely that there will be a statistical outlier. You're a science guy, so you should be familiar with the small sample fallacy. So, while you are correct that it's unfair to compare Trout's skills vs Ruths, it's also equally unfair to compare the eras in which they played. Trout putting up the numbers he is putting up now is absolutely more impressive than what Ruth did back then
  5. Ruth was great in his era, but let's not compare he and Trout's baseball skills. The eras are so different it's impossible to compare them
  6. Mike Scioscia stepping down after 2018. 1 dinosaur down, many more to go. https://www.mlb.com/news/mike-scioscia-to-step-down-as-angels-manager/c-288938414
  7. You can bet Morales was placed on waivers at 12:01 AM August 1
  8. Lots of largemouth around here that's for sure
  9. I believe that's "ravaged"
  10. Im quite sure he went to the plate determined to pop up. I'd say he executed his plan perfectly. +1 for Drury
  11. That's not quite true. 18 in Korean (English pronunciation is "ship-pal") has a similar pronunciation for their word that they use as the equivalent for f***... "shi-bal" Still, that's 100% why he wears 18... it has to be. It's way too coincidental to be anything else. And it's still awesome.
  12. This FO knows how to get rid of Morales if they really want to, but some team (AL only given his lack of every baseball skill needed to play elsewhere) would have to be desperate. I doubt we see either Morales or Martin gone before the end of 2019. Maybe Morales has somewhat of a bounceback second half 2018/1st half 2019 and maybe some AL club will get desperate, but I doubt it. Hell, they may even bite the bullet and DFA him if he hovers around replacement/sub-replacement level..... but again, I doubt it. Martin is moveable next year at the deadline if he's even half competent with the bat next season simply due to his defensive reputation and vetrin presents.
  13. Middle one. Tulo, Kendrys and Martin really create the impossibility if a true youth movement (thankfully the latter 2 will be gone after next season at the latest). They'll try to pick up a few warm bodies on the cheap to fill some gaps in the rotation, pen and bench that they will hope to flip at the deadline and next year will look very similar to this year. Then 2020 will be the first true youth movement year with Tulo's corpse still being paid 20 million, with lots of leeway to add.

  15. Fangraphs updated board with jays post trade deadline rankings https://www.fangraphs.com/scoutboard.aspx?draft=&type=&pos=&team=tor
  16. Yup. If he retired he would forfeit his salary through the end of 2020
  17. Kinda of a weird little hop step there when he's gearing up to throw
  18. Check that.... 19-0 in the 5th
  19. In a vacuum..sure. But, given the money in baseball it's arguable he is underpaid. Baseball has guaranteed contracts agreed upon through collective bargaining. It's fine not to like that. Nobody held a gun to the Rockies when they offered it to him, nor the Jays when they willingly traded for it.
  20. It's not really about greed, it's about getting what he is contractually obligated to receive.
  21. Yup. Unless he gets a 100% buyout ... may as well enjoy his 60 day DL status for the next 3 seasons.
  22. Yeah, retirement announcement is wishful thinking. Very very wishful
  23. I haven't actually rooted for a guy to never play baseball again...until now.
  24. Please announce retirement. .....
