  1. Alrighty Berrios, dont give anything back now, just a nice clean inning.
  2. That'll do nicely
  3. This team bails out so many pitchers by swinging at garbage pitches...
  4. attaboy Vlad. Take the 2-0 centre cut meatball and then wave at the slider near the others batters box for a grounder to the pitcher. Great decision making.
  5. Yeah guys like him i think it's better to go out before the true decline. Wayne was pretty beat up later in his career and you just knew he didn't have the "elite" left in him. Sure, he could still go through the motions and probably still be average to above average, but... to a guy like him, being average to above average was like being 50% of himself.
  6. Zimmer is exactly the kind of player Tampa would sign and he'd magically turn into a 5 WAR/650 guy for half a season, then some other team would trade them some prospects nobody had heard of at the dealine, he'd promptly turn back into a pumpkin and the prospects would be the next Franco and McClanahan.
  7. Bonds could probably outhit Pujols right now.
  8. It's really just optics. They couldnt justify giving Zimmer PA's when he's been so beyond terrible with the bat, despite being heads and shoulders better than Tapia in every other facet of the game. As for JBJ, he is what they wanted Zimmer to be, so rather than just hope Zimmer would turn it around, they just grabbed the consistency and punted the question mark.
  9. Phillies claimed Zimmer
  10. Frasso looks like a closer in the making. Though when all you see is the strikeout pitch and not what leads up to it, it's hard to say for sure. He does get deep in counts alot, his command is not great, but the stuff is legit. His delivery is a bit funky with some deception, which is probably why he has less than ponpoint command, that arm action and slot cant be very easy to repeat consistently.
  11. Kooch can never be a long man, he's Asian.
  12. I think who they go to in that hypothetical will largely depend on what happens between now ... and that hypothetical game. I think if the WC happened right now, and it was 1-1 and all 4 of White, Berrios, Strip and Kikuchi were ready, i truly think they'd go to Stripling right now. If Berrios has that "a-ha!" moment and figures out why he's been crap and puts in consistant performances akin to his past performances prior to this season, he'd be the guy, with Strip or White ready to jump in at the slightest hint of trouble.
  13. This is probably just the A's realizing that since they cant get anything for him player-wise, theyd rather not pay him for the rest of the season, plus he had a vesting option for 2023 that was very close to coming up, they would have had to pay him 15 million next season. This is a massive salary dump for no real reason other than not wanting his 2023 option to vest. That's probably why they couldnt trade him at the deadline too, as teams would want no part of that vesting option. Doesnt this kind of thing seem like the kind of thing that should have a grievance filed over? LIke, he's no star player anymore sure but he's only a shade under league average OPS this season, it's not like they can justify the release due to his on-field performance. This is simply dumping a guy to get around the vesting option for 2015. I dont think this is a good faith move. One caveat applies, in that if they allowed him and his agent to quietly ask around to see if anyone would pick him up if he was released and they found a team that's ready to take him on.
  14. In a vacuum, he’s not totally wrong, Tapia has always been good at making contact with the baseball. It’s just not usually good contact outside of the last 2 months. Add in terrible defense and a brain the size of a peanut, and you still have a sub replacement level player getting way more PAs than he should be.
  15. It’s a really weird team. One week they look like world beaters that cannot be stopped, the next they look like a AAA team that can’t pitch, throw, catch or hit. I have no problem with the firing of Montoyo, but the overall problem still exists - a complete lack of consistency on a game to game basis outside of a few guys.
  16. I hope you're happy with yourself.
  17. Yeah, it's a nice city. Too big for my small town tastes, but it's got a lot of great things going for it. And the winters are only long to people who've never lived in places with actual winter. To everyone else they're short and easy to deal with
  18. Walker Buehler done for the season. Elbow surgery confirmed.
  19. There's also a better than decent chance Zimmer accepts an assignment to AAA if/when he clears waivers. He has enough service time to decline the assignment, but he doesnt have enough service time to decline the assignment AND keep the rest of his major league salary coming.
  20. Yeah, the problem with Texas was that they spent big to build a foundation rather than already having one in place, and spending big to add on to it. 2 star players added to a pile of crap is still just 2 star players and a pile of crap.
  21. Lead off double for Mateo….perfecto and no hitter gone. Damn
  22. Rasmussen coming back out for the 9th…here we go!
  23. 8 inning perfect. Only thrown 79 pitches.
