  1. My kingdom for people to have a better understanding of the meanings of regress and retrogress.....
  2. Yeah, and it seemed that as soon as he took over, they lost ... less. So... did his taking over not have any impact on the "hate losing" thing right away? Pure coincidence? If it's only certain invididuals that dont hate losing enough and their hatred of losing didnt change at all from when Schneider took over to when Bongos was in charge... why did the team's record (which is made up of individuals) suddenly get way better if those certain individuals still didnt hate losing enough? It's your thesis, prove it.
  3. Yeah, managers want job security too. Any manager would be crazy to take 1 year deals.
  4. Would absolutely roll the dice on Miller on a minor league deal with invite as a reliever. I think he'll probably get a guaranteed contract somewhere though.
  5. Appearances can be deceiving. They seemed to hate losing 62% of the time under Schneider this season. They only hated losing about 50% of time under Montoyo this season. Seems that Schneider improved the "hating losing" skill by 24% instantly.
  6. I love it when people think that smiling and laughing in the dugout means they don't care about losing.
  7. 3 years plus option for 2026. Confirmed. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/10/blue-jays-hire-john-schneider-as-manager.html
  8. Atkins confirmed the bone spur it to the Toronto Star on Oct 11, but surgery isn’t a definite thing yet…though that’s pretty much the only way to get rid of it. The 33-year-old veteran had been playing through an undisclosed right elbow injury throughout the second half of the season. Atkins revealed Tuesday it was a bone spur. Springer is scheduled to have the elbow examined by a specialist once he has been cleared for travel.(had the concussion at the time so wouldn’t have been able to fly) “We don’t know,” Atkins said when asked if Springer would require surgery. “His elbow is feeling much better, so we’ll see once he gets in there, but I don’t expect that to impact him … If anything, I think just getting rid of that spur will only impact him positively and his ability to play centre field.”
  9. Sweet. Making that massive extension looking better by the minute! Vlad nominated at 1b also.
  10. Probably a volume thing, he hit 50% of his balls in play on the ground. Vlad was 52%. If anything, just like Vlad, his launch angle would need to improve
  11. I dont know about thinking that he's peaked as the reason fro trading him, just that Jansen/Moreno would be more than satisfactory as a catching tandem, so why not strike while the iron is hot and trade a very valuable chip to fill other areas of need if you can. That's probably more the thought process. As for whether there is more in the bat... Yeah there could be. His batted ball profile is pretty excellent, so I dont think a 135-140 wRC+ is out of the realm of possibility which is liekly where he would be with 20 HR and a similar triple slash as 2022. I dont know that his average will ever contend for the title given his slowness of foot.
  12. If true, I suspect it be more like 2 + club option.
  13. The pushups at home are plus though.
  14. I legit hate his face. And hair. And how he runs like a blind baby giraffe.
  15. LIke I said, if management thinks there's a real uptick in the bat lurking there, I would do it and be okay with it. I just generally dont like trading great offense for great defense because history has taught us we dont need to do that. Can figure out a way to improve the D without giving up Kirk
  16. He is, not really disputing that. But a ton of his value is tied to defense, not the bat, where he's right around league average. This is like trading Kirk for the 2021 version of Espinal if you saw Espinal as a starting SS and needed one - elite D and was on pace for 4+ WAR with even above average bat. Now the value from the bat between Espinal and Varsho is very different, Varsho has power, swings and misses a lot and chases alot. Espinal doesnt hit for power, but sprays it around, contact guy. If you had the belief that Varsho was going to take leaps forward with the bat and step more into a 120 wRC+ range ... different story, though I'm not seeing much in his profile from this season that makes me think that kind of improvement is imminent. Would people really be lining up to trade Kirk for 2021 Espinal if the area of need was SS rather and the OF ?? I doubt that. As much as it makes sense in a WAR for WAR situation, it's not really necessary to give up well above average bats to get well above average defense in return. Rightly or wrongly, defense is and always has been cheaper to get via trade and free agency.
  17. Tapia- 1.3 Yuli - 10.3 Castellanos - 12.3 Yeah, I guess that proves they’re all the same pile of trash.
  18. Trading one of the best hitting catchers in baseball for Varsho? Jesus,if that’s all they got for Kirk I’d be severely pissed.
  19. I think there's still alot to like about Teo's profile, though the K rate increasing would be a bit of a concern. vs
  20. Teo has more value than lottery tickets. Its not high, but it's not dumpster value either. Gurriel has consciously (for some f***ed up reason) moved away from his power swing in favor of an all fields approach. As soon as someone can talk him back into not being a doorknob, he'll produce again. Guys like Espinal should be spray hitters. Gurriel should be trying to do damage. 3. Don;t know of any specific names and it wouldnt evne have to be a CF, just saying that trading Jansen in return for an area of need, while only losing a fraction of the offense at the C spot is not a bad idea. I miss the 2020 Gurriel Jr...
  21. 1. I dont think anyone has suggested Teo will bring back massive value in trade. 2. I would rather play Gurriel any day of the week over Tapia. At least Gurriel has some power in there he can tap into again if he pulls his head out of his ass. 3. No s***. But hitching your wagon to a catcher as an offensive centerpiece that isn't the next Buster Posey isn't ideal either. And since Kirk would replace like 90% of the offense of Jansen for far less money, trading Jansen (while not ideal) COULD actually improve the team if you land say... a CF in return. 4. See #3. The biggest mistake any armchair GM makes is that you should never trade anyone at their peak, and also never trade anyone that won't return a landslide of better players. Trading a guy to free up cash has value. Doesnt mean you sell him for peanuts and filling the vending machine of course... just saying.
  22. Old standards would allow for physical assault that could result in death as a proper remedy for hurt feelings. The standards of the "grand ol' game" are moronic at best.
  23. MLB probably has a hate on for him for exposing the whole "sticky stuff" shenanigans. I cant even fathom how this whole process has played out based on the information that is known about his suspension. Granted, we don't know everything, and likely never will... so either 1 of two things is true. 1. It's way way way way way worse than we realize and he may actually be the scum of the earth. or, 2. It's nowhere near as bad as it was made out to be and MLB is incredibly worried about how to spin such a long suspension for a guy who consensually choked someone during sex.
  24. It was, people all over the place flying off the handle saying it was disrespectful or whatever, just f*** off. Even Cole was like.. whatever, it was cute.
