    He fits that Jays archetype too. High contact, lower power, can play multiple IF positions. He jumped multiple levels last season (im not counting the 1 game at AAA) and settled at AA with a 124 wRC+ as a 22 year old. Guy didnt even rate in their top 60 according to fangraphs last year.

    I think it would be more accurate to say that the new system shows how important it is not to waste challenges until theres a time when catcher who actually knows what he's doing can pull it off. Umps are already way better than they were 10 years ago just by looking at umpscorecards over the years.

    Atkins on the MIF situation.... "Kasevich performed very well in Spring Training, and we do have some confidence in him,” Atkins said, “and we’ll be active in trying to acquire depth in that area, as well.” Is that really a lot of confidence then? I read that more like "we have our emergency guy in Kasevich who can can play a game or two, or maybe a week or two to give is time to trade for IKF"

    On the plus side, even though he was roughed up a bit in the breakout game, Maroudis was sitting 93-94 and touched 96 with the heater. Still has that hammer curve too. Sure he's still a bit of an afterthought now, but now with that full year+ of rehab and training he could himself back on the radar.

    Agreed that MIF depth is important. But... I just never bought the Leo Jimenez stock. I didn't see anything about him that stood out (which is many times a good thing to be fair). You could see he had some power, but he didn't swing like he wanted to use it. Passive approaches at the plate. Not quite Craig Biggio's son's level of passivity but like... he wasn't looking to make a difference, he was just trying to survive. That's my own (admittedly flawed) eye-test that he failed in combination with not exactly standout numbers. I've never been a fan of Leo. Yes, he's good enough defensively to play SS in the major leagues, but his mindset of what he's doing at the plate is what's holding him back from being an actual major league regular.

    Netflix probably has a larger potential US audience than any cable sports channel to be fair given the weird sports packages on cable. Current estimates have Netflix being present for 60% of the population.

    Given my limited knowledge of stress fractures, I can't help but feel his recovery would be on the quicker side given that he didn't even know he had one, and was pain free and throwing well at the time of the accidental diagnosis. It's interesting to think where he'd be right now had he not been evaluated for insurance for the WBC. Would he still be throwing and nobody having a clue it was there?

    How dare you besmirch the possibility having a peak Ponce. Even if he shifts to the pen in a playoff scenario, Ponce might be the real dark horse MVP of the staff this season.

    Great story about Busch Stadium that I love... the Busch family of course owns Budweiser and the Cardinals, and wanted to call it Budweiser Stadium. MLB wouldnt let them so they named it after the family instead.....Busch Stadium.... and then created a new line of beer called Busch after the fact. The old middle finger to MLB!

    Seabold signed with Detroit. Apparently he triggered the release clause on the Jays, he signed a split deal with Detroit and will make the opening day roster thanks to the injury to Beau Briske

    I think now that he's opening the season on the IL, he's getting service time. Besides, even if he was healthy, the Jays shouldn't be worrying about service time manipulation in a season where a deep post-season run is a legit expectation

    Yes. He apparently showed up to ST with the issue, and theyve been building him up slowly. per Schneider

    f*** at least he's already throwing and being built up. He just wont be built up in time to start the season on the big club. He tossed 35 pitches in a minor league game earlier in the week and felt good, but there isn’t enough time to complete his ramp-up before Opening Day. He is scheduled to throw again on March 25, though no formal return timetable has been set.
