Maybe, I guess guys like Gausman would struggle more given the two-pitch profile and the hitters able to zero in more but I don’t see that lack of break as the problem with the splitters, they’re nearly all in the dirt
I think 100% of the problem is mental. You can make do with physical issues by not being stupid. Yes it would be better if he was in better shape, but imagine a guy like vlad who loses 30 pounds, gets faster and still makes idiotic decisions on the bases. It's not really his lack of speed that's the problem it's his and Rivera's lack of realizing it and continually taking stupid chances
There's no denying there's hidden talent..it's not even really all that hidden.
The issue is the mental roadblock in the way of that talent is pretty significant.
Would anyone truly be surprised if he hit 40 bombs next season given his talent levels?
On the flip side, would anyone be truly surprised if we see the same 100 wRC+ hitter with s*** d and s*** baserunning?
All I know if the front office needs to figure out how to get through to him and fast, or just send him in his way.
Wasn’t there a runner on base? If so, catchers generally don’t set up with their throwing hand behind them as it makes it more difficult if they need to block a ball in the dirt or try to throw someone out
2 whiffs on 9 swings on the fastball. 5 swings and no whiffs on the slider. Savant has 1 pitch as a cutter which is unlikely, was probably just a bad slider but it was swung at and contacted.
So 2 whiffs on 15 swings.
Exit velos against him were all above league average as well.
