  1. It’s really just the baseball version of “the grass is greener…” syndrome. Even though the RC doesn’t actually have grass…
  2. I didnt making any insinuations on how the Jays management specifically accepts last season, just that ownership and management in general don’t view an organizations successes in the same black and white basics that fans do. Hell, owners likely view success differently than front offices do as well. Ownership wants to make money. There is a correlation to championships and money of course, but it’s not the direct linear line that people expect. The big market teams don’t need to win WS and they’ll still make hundreds of millions of dollars more than any small market team like Baltimore even if the Os win 3 of the next 4 WS, not that it would ever happen since the team is owned by cheapskates who pocket all the money rather than spend it. Yes, publicly they have to say they want to win because that’s what you say. But the reality is, the owners only care about the money, winning is just for bragging rights at Epstein Island while they get their taints fondled by sex trafficked slaves. Front office guys..yeah they still care more about winning because that’s what their bragging rights are. That’s their ego filler, their metaphorical dick measuring device. But the front office of Tampa and the front office of the Dodgers definitely don’t have the same kind of expectations, so how happy the FOs are with their winning is definitely some kind of sliding scale. Tampas FO should be nowhere near as pissed as not winning the WS as the Dodgers, Mets, Braves, etc….given the discrepancies in assets.
  3. Good explanation. It pretty much encapsulates how fans think vs how successful business people (sports executives included) think. Fans demand instant gratification and anything less means the GM should be fired. Hitter has a bad month he should be traded. Closer blows 2 straight saves? DFA…he’s worthless. No WS this season? Fire the entire front office before selling the team to someone who actually wants to win. They don’t understand variance or the massive scale of these operations and probably don’t care. Most posters here at least have a better understanding of the game and aren’t Sportsnet article comment section level morons. It’s just that they all have different definitions of what a successful franchise is. It seems to me there’s only 3 or 4 main categories that fans use to determine a successful franchise. Championship wins, playoff series wins, regular season records and how much money is spent to achieve those things. Different people would weight each category differently because reasons. No weighting is ever really “right” …because it’s subjective for each fan. Execs and Owners of course have completely different categories and far different weighting
  4. Bader signed by the Mets, basically a Kiermaier deal. 1/10m, though some are reporting 1/10.5
  5. I meant Theo Epstein.
  6. So I guess Franco is on Epstein’s list? Maybe the mom too
  7. You can slam Atkins all you want but you leave Barry Horowitz out of this!!!!!
  8. You wanted him to mime squeezing some chicks ass at work?
  9. Red Sox claimed Max Castillo from the Royals, that puts their 40 man roster full assuming Giolitos deal becomes official
  10. It’s not super cut and dried. Every season he’s been fully healthy he’s out it 1.6 or higher. If Green is healthy for 70+ innings, I don’t think 1.5 is a crazy expectation.
  11. Since none of us degenerates were drunk enough to make this thread on New Year’s Day, here it is. Enjoy bitches!
  12. Same. Pederson would ne a nice addition.
  13. You’re assuming 40 million is the number, not necessarily true. But what you said speaks exactly to what I said, that you’re worried about the order of the signings before the off-season is over. People thought the market would pick up after Yamamoto and Ohtani were off the board, yet…here we are. Same big names still available more than a week after Yamamoto signs. Plus there’s still trades. If the roster is in the same shape on Feb 1st, then there’s a problem. It’s not a problem yet
  14. Where the 3b, DH and corner outfielders are coming from is the exact same questions as before the signings,so...again I wonder why people are worried about the signings that happened first. Hypothetically, had the Jays already signed Soler, JDM and Chapman(sake of argument) would the same problems with the IKF and KK signings be had?
  15. Quickley is the good get here IMO. Admittedly I dont watch the NBA all that much, but this is a guy that the all the analysts of this trade seem to think could be the one taking the biggest leap. Runner up for 6th man of the year... near 40% shooter from 3pt range, stuck as a backup. Then there's the age thing, Barnes is 22, Quickley is 24, RJ is 23. Just gotta get a good deal done for Siakam now and it's even more of a necessity.
  16. 12 innings. 0.3 fWAR. That's a damn fine pen arm. Take that up to 60 innings, which is reasonable, 1.5 fWAR. expecting 1.5-2 wins from a reliever is never a bad thing. I suspect people are getting hung up on the order in which the signings are happening without taking into account where the Jays are on win curve. Like, they're worried that signing IKF before signing a LF, 3B and DH must mean they are no longer looking for them or something. It's a pretty confusing rationale.
  17. I dunno, I think if you’re unsure where the power is going to come from, you pretty much have to stock up on defense as your insurance policy. Pitching +defense and just get in, while not the end goal of course, isn’t a terrible worst case scenario. Yes I still want two bigger bats added.
  18. If the Bauer situation didn’t qualify for termination with cause or any other domestic violence suspensions….what would?
  19. Short answer is because Andrew Friedman is probably the best GM in baseball in recent memory and has the right people doing the right things in the right places. But even a quick glance at their roster... 17 home grown players on the 40 man roster. Jays? 17 homegrown on the 40 man roster. I'll get a bit more deep into it in a few posts to compare the respective home grown players on each team.
  20. Bauer is really enjoying this I'm sure.
  21. Pearson is just so damn good when he’s on. Those few outings last season when he did command his curve he was utterly untouchable. Him being a SP is a pipe dream for sure. Hell, even him being a bulk reliever would be fantastic right now. The talent is so obvious, but the consistency is nonexistant
  22. Yes, and it’s also important to understand it’s never going to be successful for everyone. Fine tuning is a good way to put it. I also neglected to mention that the facility has only been going for what…3 off-seasons now and probably just now are getting close to having it fully staffed with all the people they want. No way it would have running at full steam from day 1
  23. No flippancy intended, but it’s hard to provide a potential perspective without a specific statement to know what yours is. You just saw Schneider (28th round), and Horwitz (24th round) play roles on the bid league club last season. Tiedemann took a massive leap forward in his first season after being drafted. Even guys like Connor Cooke, Palmegiani, Jimmy Burnett, Jeunger…Dallas, Santos….the fact these guys are even relevant in the Jays system just 2 full seasons after being drafted shows the complex is doing pretty well. The true strength of the complex isn’t going to be taking some guy from out of nowhere to being a star (though that would nice admittedly), it will be taking guys that otherwise would have flamed out in AA and getting a few good seasons out of them wherever they fit in, whether that’s a middle reliever, #4-5 starter, or even a bench guy. That’s where the real value is
  24. How anyone arrives at the conclusion that Varsho is expendable because they signed KK just doesn’t get it. They ended up with nearly identical fWAR last season, but to do so the mid thirties guy over performed his offense, while the 26 year old drastically underperformed his. One thing you got backwards though…..Varsho is not the KK insurance policy, KK is the Varsho insurance policy
  25. The move , in a vacuum, is not a “good move.” It’s kinda sideways and slightly backwards when dollars are considered if all you do is compare IKF to Espinal. But, this move can’t be evaluated in a vacuum. IMO it’s clear they have a trade worked out and Espinal is part of it, they knew they needed to find a replacement, and it just happens that the signing is being announced before the trade. At least, I hope that’s what it is because if that’s not the plan, the move doesn’t make a ton of sense.
