  1. Tell that to all the big banks and fortune 500 companies that needed government bailouts to keep afloat over the past however many years pre-Covid. I like the new avatar also, it suits you.
  2. definitely some good fortune, but gotta give Jimi some credit too for putting out a pretty big fire.
  3. Yeah, coming in with runners on 1st and 3rd with none out and he gets a shallow fly, pop up and a strikeout looking. Was probably the ballgame right there if he didnt get those guys when he did.
  4. Yeah. When I'm watching him hit it truly looks like he's trying to guess along with the pitcher at whats coming instead of just looking for a certain pitch/location, and he's mostly guessing offspeed which makes him late on the fastballs he does get.
  5. Never had a doubt. Good win boys
  6. Nice. I have it on good authority though from sportsnet comments sections that Yariel was signed to be a swingman at best, so these good starts in Buffalo will be great prep for that role.
  7. I know, the Yankees could really be in trouble despite their early sweep of the Astros. I know, the Astros could really be in trouble especially after their early sweep at the hands of the Yankees. I know, the Rangers could..... ......
  8. I dont want to see Turner at 3b ever again.
  9. Yeah, what do they even expect for a guy making 2 million dollars this year?
  10. almost 300 replies, must have won
  11. Both were already playing catch on flat ground this week, a 60 day stint would seem unlikely at this point unless a step backwards is taken. The great thing about relievers is they don’t need much time to build up. From the time they’re throwing off a mound and throwing bullpens they could be game ready in 2 weeks-ish
  12. Yeah. I think any reliever with options is going to be pushed to the 5-option limit this year. The Buffalo shuttle will be in full effect.
  13. It is, but then... there's teams that are in it right down to the last couple games of the season, so... they would earn 0 "draft points" when they were trying the entire time vs a dumpster team that was eliminated with a month left in the season and picked up a few meaningless wins. How would that benefit the team that was in it right to the end when the premise of the system would be to encourage the dumpster teams to be more like the teams who already push to the finish line and just barely come up short? Its an interesting idea, but would need some tweaking. Perhaps, you take the win total for the worst team in the game, as in the team that is eliminated mathematically the soonest, and use that wins number on the day of their elimination as the cutoff for all teams that don't make the playoffs. Any non-playoff team gets their "draft points" based on how many wins they end up with above that number.
  14. the 2.75 they traded away in Espinal looks even more important then in addition to the fact that he sucks.
  15. Can't even imagine the media shitshow. It would be incredible
  16. Adding a correction to my post here. Apparently they can ask him to agree to a 45 day window in which they can outright him and then he forfeits whatever remains on the 2 million guaranteed annual salary. Something called "Advanced Consent" That's one piece of the CBA I'd be looking at getting rid of in the next round of negotiations if I'm the head of the PA. That's a really bad look when teams do that. here's a decent breakdown from mlbtraderumours in 2014 about it. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/04/the-45-day-advance-consent-form.html
  17. Naw, its all clickbait really. Anything like this article is just picking tiny examples of things that might look weird without any larger context.
  18. No doubt. Defense doesn't get paid in arbitration... ever.
  19. Kikuchi will be cut because he's been bad in spring training...... Gonna let someone else handle that one.
  20. Agreed. He also happens to have the most power potential of the 5-9 hitters as it stands, unless they put Vogelbach there in for his DH days.
  21. I don't think a player can give up a guaranteed salary. I know they can forfeit a guaranteed salary if they refuse assignment to the minors and choose to become a free agent, but I don't think a minor league signing who gets 2 million guaranteed if he makes the club can then agree to have that 2 million "unguaranteed". That kind of situation would create extremely obvious ways to exploit players by clubs. THe blurb in Davidi's article just means they have 2 choices... add him to the 40 man and he gets his 2 million guaranteed, or dont add him and he goes to AAA on his minor league salary. There's no third option to add him to the 40 man with an unguaranteed salary. They just punted 2.75 million by trading Espinal so the 2 million for Vogelbach and possibly up to 4 million for Votto, is really just a net cost of up to 3.25 million over the whole season. If Votto's incentives don't trigger, it's 1.25 net. Not a big deal cost wise.
  22. Kikuchi is dead in your scenario?
  23. They could, but they likely won't unless its just a game or two in a weird situation. Pen arms are too important these days in maximizing wins.
  24. Yeah, and then lets pretend that accessory to wire-fraud while youre trying to help a friend pay off gambling debts is even remotely close to the same thing Pete Rose did, or even the same ballpark as wife-beaters. Ignorance isnt a defense of course and he should be punished accordingly, but this doesnt appear to be a gambling issue with Ohtani himself. It does, however, seem to be a gambling issue with illegal books if the rest of that stuff about the bookie being at the team hotel taking bets on other sports from guys on the team turns out to be true. That's a far bigger issue than what Ohtani himself did.
  25. Good stuff. Didnt read the article but i guess that means they would be able to get him to 80 pitches in his first MLB game without missing any and just have a longer-ish guy lined up to go after him, though Gausman could go 5+ on 80 pitches if he's chucking good that day.
