  1. I agree in theory but Vlad has to agree to make that work. If it took 550 million 15 years to do it tomorrow... would you? I wouldn't.
  2. Been using it since it was mentioned here and ... agreed 100%
  3. There next to 0 chance at a pre-free agency extension that's for sure. He'd be an idiot not to go to FA and let teams compete against each other rather than just letting 1 team do it. Even though he's not in Soto's league thus far in his career, if he has a full year like his second half he's gonna get a pile. He's already turned down whatever extension offers the Jays have offered in the past, which I have no idea what dollar value they were in, but... if i had to guess they were in the 200 million range probably pretty early on. Pure speculation on the number of course, but we know they've been talking every offseason since at least 2021. Vlad's just betting on himself like Soto did. It just remains to be seen how it works out for him.
  4. Youre capable of better. Do better
  5. Mountain out of a molehill.
  6. Trading for Crochet will probably make that pain go away rather quickly
  7. Given that the Bo scenario you outlined is likely an impossibility, comparing the 2 is pretty pointless
  8. Horwitz finds himself back with Matt Hague. MVP season incoming
  9. Casuals seem to like the trade...probably more reason to hate it.
  10. Puzzling move overall really.
  11. Probably about to trade Naylor
  12. Yeah looks like its tied to the opt out. Mets can void the opt-out by increasing his annual salary by 4m per season for the remaining 10 years.
  13. Or staying with the Yankees. Best to get him on the other side of the sport.
  14. I know right? Even for Cohen that's ... wow
  15. 51 million AAV . The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the deal includes a $75MM signing bonus, while Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Soto’s deal contains an opt-out after the 2029 season.
  16. If that's true, good god that's a massive overpay.
  17. And now all the speculation of what the Jays offer was can start. Did they outbid and he just turned them down because of made up reasons to be mad at??
  18. Better pivot quickly I wonder how much will be deferred?
  19. MLB network saying it's down to Toronto and the Mets for Soto. Saw another post that says the Mets are approaching 800 million offer. Grain of salt of course. We know how people love clicks when there's something to click about
  20. To me it's a shuffling of the deck chairs move. Matz projects worse than Yariel at this point so spending 7 million on a the hopes that he'd duplicate his 2021, which may only be a .5-1 win upgrade doesn't seem worth it. Yariel projects at 1.6 next season, Matz career year was 2.7. Yeah it's only 6-7 million in your hypothetical but the payoff isn't worth it when you consider the liklihood of him actually returning to his career peak from 4 seasons ago. It's more likely Yariel puts up 2fwar. If the thinking is that Matz is insurance for one of Yariel or Francis (also 1.6fwar projection) stinking up the place...okay, but even then it's not a needle mover. If the Jays want to add a depth arm, ot should be from the result of signing someone clearly better, pushing someone currently in the rotation out of it. Bumping Yariel for Matz isn't that move.
  21. In a vacuum I see the appeal, but I think if the Jays are looking for a SP that pushes Yariel to the pen, wouldn't ya want to target a guy who you're far more certain would actually be better than Yariel?
  22. Not when you consider the signing bonus and deferrals.
  23. I understand completely how it works, which is why I understand that its a very creative and rule abiding way to not pay as much tax when 70 million leaves the Dodgers every year, but only has to worry about potential penalties on 46 million of it.
  24. As stated above, we'll find out after 2026 for sure. If new rules get put in we'll have the answer.
  25. Spirit of. I get it, it's currently allowed. But that's why they make new rules when people abuse it. Just like the LTIR and salary cap stuff I mentioned in the NHL. Allowed by the rules at the time, then the rules changed because of the spirit of the rule they were abusing.
