    Facts don't matter if they don't support Olerud's original incorrect premise. I think you make a good point. Of course extra base hits are one of the biggest factors in winning, but all teams can do that at this point. Teams are similarly talented in the playoffs and games are closer because of it. Things like advancing runners, taking extra bases, making defensive plays, etc. are magnified to some extent. There isn't a stat for it, but anyone who has watched playoff baseball knows that the formula is a little different in the playoffs.

    I didn't make any predictions about Seattle. My only point has already been made and confirmed. Obviously I hope they lose, but there isn't anything to gloat about in that regard. Regarding the red sox, I was correct about pitching being their achilles heel. A lot of others were too, but I will happily discuss Boston sucking any time.

    They don't lose much by plugging in Santana at DH, but it takes away their only viable PH option. Schneider should have an easier time matching up with his bullpen now. I thought the loss of Haggerty was important too, but I was corrected and told that he doesn't matter.

He's better healthier, and more versatile. In a 3 game series, you also take 6 bench players. There is virtually no scenario where we need more than 8 relievers, but a guy like Zimmer could be really useful.

    He's gone from a 102 wRC+ to 118 this year, so saying that he's the same as last year is false. He's also the 8th most valuable 3B in baseball, so saying that he's a nice 7 hitter is also false. That may be true on the best offense in the league, but he's a top 5 guy on almost any other team.

    Perhaps in 2019, but certainly not for this season. I predicted some substantial improvement on his 2021 numbers at the plate, which is what we have seen. Considering what we gave up, questioning this move was and is pretty ridiculous. We wouldn't be in this same situation with Escobar instead.

    Chapman really has made a huge impact on defense. Great acquisition.

    Casey Lawrence is going to throw 90 pitches and just eat it no matter how many runs are scored.

    The futility of their franchise history is really an entirely different discussion. I remember we were comparing their most recent stretch to the Angels. There's an entire 4 hour video on this that's really worth a watch. I like our expansion cousins just fine. Everyone knows about it when I don't like a team and there's one in particular that sure as hell isn't Seattle.

    You are the person that said 'historically bad" and then you just quoted yourself to somehow prove that I said it? Mediocre is the term that I used. It's pretty clear who is trolling here and you are doing a good job of it. This particular exchange started when I *gasp* said that one of their players was good. Now I'm being negative? Nice mental gymnastics.

    Manning isn't going to get much better than this in my opinion, but he'll be a useful pitcher if health permits.

    This all started because I called them a mediocre playoff team and he went nuts trying to make them out as this elite behemoth. It's nice that we get to find out which is true in short order.

    He's a legitimately good player and brings more to the table than a Bradley Zimmer. Another average hitter and above average defender/runner doesn't exist on their depth chart, but I digress. Pinch runners and defenders make a difference in the playoffs. It's the reason Tereance Gore was in the playoffs every year and the reason we kept Zimmer all year. I hate this example, but look at what Dave Roberts did. Someone on the Jays bench will win us multiple games if we make a run. It could be Cavan Biggio scoring on a sac fly or getting a big hit. It could be Espinal making a game saving double play. It will happen though.

    A player with a diverse skillset that differs from the rest of the team can be a difference maker in the playoffs. I never said he was one of their best hitters. His contact oriented bat, versatility and speed has been useful for a team that: - Carries 3 catchers and has a lot of slow players - Has multiple poor hitting lefties in the lineup - Lacks pinch hitting options that make contact - Has 3 poor defensive outfielders

    Good chance to buy low on O'Neill. Thomas could be a solid upside play as well.

    I'm curious to see how the potential loss of Sam Haggerty impacts Seattle. He's a bit of a Cavan Biggio type who can pinch run and play multiple positions and one of only 3 hitters batting above .250. It would certainly make Mayza more effective if they load the bottom of the lineup with lefties and have no pinch hitting options.

    I would prefer Gregory Soto, but they have a DH tomorrow, so it's an understandable move.

    It will be interesting to see how they use him, considering he's their only lefty and we may have none in our lineup.

    Matt Boyd looks amazing. I'm happy to see him healthy again.

    They aren't tanking, but they certainly aren't putting in their best lineups or best effort. Lots of regulars resting and poor effort in the field.

    It would really suck to have the perfect scenario lined up for a few weeks, only to end up facing the Rays. They are, in my opinion, the best team we could have faced.

    5 walks, 7 hits for the Tigers and we're still in the 5th inning. I've watched a lot of Mariners games recently and this just doesn't look anything like a playoff calibre roster. Wild pitching, lots of defensive miscues, and absolutely horrendous offense. I hope that trend continues.
