I'm having a difficult time understanding what the plan is from Chaim Bloom. He lets the franchise player go without even making a sincere effort and proceeds to make a puzzling outfield signing, while not addressing the team's horrendous starting rotation.

Boston DFA' d Hoy Park only 20 days after trading a real prospect for him. Very odd.

Luckily, I don't see that happening after they signed Vasquez.

I wouldn't hate taking on his contract, but I wouldn't give them a lot.

This is what everyone should have expected for KK, given that Tampa cut him for 1/10.5 Good signing.

Awfully expensive at 21 million per season, but I really like the 3 year term. I think in hindsight we should have offered a QO to Stripling if we were going to give out a deal like this, but it's pretty reasonable compared to other signings.

That doesn't include the 2.5 million buyout. If a team valued Kiermaier at 1/10.5 then the Rays would have traded him for a bag of balls.

If the 1/8.5 turns out to be true.

From NBC Sports: "The Boston Red Sox addressed their lack of outfield depth by signing Japanese star Masataka Yoshida to a five-year contract on Wednesday. While the move makes sense on paper, it reportedly left several MLB evaluators scratching their heads. Yoshida's contract is worth more than 90 million. On top of that hefty price tag, the Red Sox will pay a 15.4 million posting fee for the Orix Buffaloes of the Nippon Professional Baseball league, bringing the total to approximately 105.4 million. ESPN's Kiley McDaniel reports MLB evaluators are skeptical of Yoshida living up to his contract. Here's an interesting excerpt from McDaniel's column on the Red Sox' acquisition. I sent texts around to a number of scouts and execs explaining what I thought his tools were (high contact, very good approach, average-ish power, limited defensive ability) and asking what I was missing between that scouting report and what the Red Sox paid. I think you are correct that Jansen is as valuable as Happ, if not more. He's a better player with more control, no doubt about that, but the injury concerns even it out.

I just noticed that, my mistake. Anything over about 1/11 or 2/20 would be a tremendous mistake, given what he could have been had for earlier. I don't think that can be disputed.

Mistakes are rarely so clear cut in baseball, but this is pretty bad. Why would we not trade for Kiermaier at 1/10.5 instead of giving him 2/24? He was clearly not on their radar going into the offseason and/or they horribly misread the market. I really don't see how anyone could like this contract. On the field, I think he fits well and I expect that the 1.2 WAR projection is pretty on point. I just hate that we threw away several million dollars for nothing.

How quickly you forget about elite pitcher Shun Yamaguchi.

I don't dispute that, but we also need a CF and Bellinger is a viable option.

Do they play CF though?

I have a difficult time picturing that happening. They will be well in excess of 200 million.

I would consider his teammate Cody Bellinger if he is non-tendered as well.

That's too much. You could get Rogers for Jansen and maybe even Lopez if you added a bit.

Is there a deal to be made involving Jansen and Bryan Reynolds?

I'm not convinced that Nootbar is our solution in CF. He's a good alternative to split time with Springer, but I'd first explore more long term options there.

Rutschman and Rodriguez had the same WAR. A vote for the former is perfectly reasonable.

I'll gladly trash the FO if they don't reinvest the cash, but Infirmly believe that there will be some big spending this offseason.

If you consider that: A) We needed to sign a reliever Swanson is every bit as good as a guy like Rafael Montero, who got 3/35 C) Teoscar was going to make 14-15 million Then this trade opens up a lot of intriguing possibilities payroll wise. By filling the bullpen needs for free, they essentially opened up ~25 million to find a CF and SP.

He was 8 in Seattle. I would expect him to be around the same here
