  1. If you're trying to show off your vocabulary, made up words from a cartoon probably aren't your best route. I believe that McGuire can be a starting catcher if he is developed properly. That certainly means giving him the appropriate amount of time in the minors. If that means spending 4 million on Alex Avila then I think it's worth it.
  2. Updated 7-16-16 Catchers Alex Avila (30) Drew Butera (34) Jason Castro (30) A.J. Ellis (36) Ryan Hanigan (36) — $3.75MM club option with an $800K buyout Nick Hundley (33) Chris Iannetta (34) — $4.25MM club/vesting option Jonathan Lucroy (31) — $5.25MM club option with a $25K buyout Jeff Mathis (34) Dioner Navarro (33) A.J. Pierzynski (40) Wilson Ramos (29) Carlos Ruiz (38) — $4.5MM club option with a $500K buyout Jarrod Saltalamacchia (32) Geovany Soto (34) Kurt Suzuki (33) — $6MM vesting option Josh Thole (30) Matt Wieters (31)
  3. I think so, at least in April. We don't need to rush him. Age is on his side and more development would clearly help.
  4. I think Ramirez has a better chance of playing with Buffalo by the end of the season.
  5. Lots of dumn fans think that. Nothing new here.
  6. I think this is hopeless. Admitting that Grilli is still good would undermine his entire premise.
  7. What about Grilli's performance is unsustainable?
  8. I don't know about that. He's been this good for the better part of six consecutive years now. I think one win is really big in this division, but I don't see any point in continuing to argue about it.
  9. Grilli has been worth .77 WPA with the Jays for what it's worth. Adding over a win (if he keeps performing) for nothing is a pretty good reward.
  10. I think you missed the point. We could have likely had him for less 'value' than a decent prospect and several million dollars. A quick look at the Dodgers 40 man shows Bolsinger as an easy DFA candidate if they were healthy and/or made some other moves. A big part of this series of moves was the perceived upgrade from Chavez to Feldman in my opinion.
  11. They are good prospects, don't get me wrong, but you won't find them on many updated top 100 lists. They both realistically slot into the 6-8 range in our system for now.
  12. Yeah...this is Feldman's fault....ok
  13. All signs suggest that Feldman is a great contact manager, but I won't fight you on it. The front office believes that he is having a legit good year. I don't think they were looking for a diamond in the rough. I guess I like the Benoit trade in part because it adds depth. Now we have a couple of palatable options in AAA if something goes wrong. I'm certainly not going to argue that these are great trades, but none of them are bad in my opinion.
  14. Shout out to Brayden Bouchey with 7 K's and no hits in 3 relief innings.
  15. I don't understand this post. Upton and Feldman are both having good years and are clear upgrades. Benoit's ERA isn't pretty, but he's looked real good with us. I'd honestly prefer him to a smoke and mirrors guy with a good ERA like Fernando Abad. I'm not convinced that Liriano is the answer either, but the F.O. sure is. Let's give him a chance, he's probably better than the guys he is replacing (Tepera etc.).
  16. I wouldn't be so quick to discount the chance that Hutch provides a lot of value to Pittsburgh. I like the gamble, but we we are a long way away from seeing who wins this.
  17. I think we could have had Bolsinger for less than Guadalupe Chavez and the salaries of Feldman and Jesse Chavez if that were the case, but we'll never know.
  18. Nice attempt at trolling.
  19. I think the idea that the F.O. saw Feldman as an upgrade over Chavez is a valid point no matter who said it.
  20. I'm very confident that Hutch will find success in Pittsburgh. They were obviously extremely convinced of that as well.
  21. ?? I have my lists going back more than a decade and the results are as good as any publication and much better in some cases. Most of that is dumb luck and the fact that I put a lot of weight on the most successful publication (BA, for the Jays at least), but I still hit on a few guys each year.
  22. I'm not convinced that Bolsinger will be a valuable piece for us, but I don't mind the deal. For once, Gregg Zaun made a good point. Shatkins decided that Feldman was a big upgrade over Chavez and made the move, getting what they could for Chavez. The fact that Bolsinger has an option was likely the biggest factor.
  23. I agree and mentioned that a couple of times in your recaps last week.
