  1. Dave Cameron at Fangraphs would be the first to say that their advanced standings are an interesting tool designed for the regular season. I have serious doubts that he'd recommend using them to predict the playoffs. I'm sure it's something that they would answer in a chat.
  2. The Nats and Braves are the only other teams owned by corporations, but I think it's safe to say they are different situations.
  3. Would you choose your least favourite city and the worst for your family over your top choice for an amount of money that couldn't possibly make a difference in your life? I'm going to guess no. Some players must feel the same way.
  4. I've always had a high opinion of Alford.
  5. I believe it is Goins, but they should probably go Donaldson if it is a big moment.
  6. I'm comfortable with Goins at 1B.
  7. Absolutely agree. I think we can say with some certainty that payroll will be at least 140 million if Shapiro was willing to throw that statement out there. Our projected payroll for 2017 is about 110 million including arb raises. That should leave us with plenty of wiggle room to address our needs.
  8. I had no idea that trusting statistically significant trends was evil. I may have to reevaluate my life and stop falling prey to critical thinking. Thanks for the wake up call Olerud.
  9. We were 17th in payroll at the start of the season. Breaking into the top 10 would require a roughly 14 million dollar increase.
  10. As I understand it, fangraphs playoff odds are merely an extension of their regular season projections. They would be entirely inaccurate from a historical perspective.
  11. He's right though. These rules don't do anything to protect concussed players and it almost seems like they are arbitrarily making up the rules as they go. To be clear, I don't think they are out to get the Jays or anything, but I don't get the secrecy and inconsistency.
  12. It's not semantics, he was just wrong. I know it's been a long time.
  13. Well not necessarily. My parent's grandparents all would have and I'm just 28.
  14. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wrI58dR6wpU Theme song for the game? Rock n' Roll theme fits for Cleveland.
  15. I'll take a few innings from Feldman in a 17-6 Jays win.
  16. Liriano's situation makes it even more important to keep Feldman on the roster.
  17. I understand that. I'm just speculating that if we had somehow hidden the fact that he had a concussion or downplayed the problem, we would be in a better position to win this series. The new rules, as I understand them, were meant to protect players with possible concussions by giving teams added roster flexibility. This scenario encourages deception and recklessness does it not?
  18. Time to move Alford into the top 100 Jays prospects.
  19. I don't see how that type of rule encourages teams and players to be more careful with concussions. If anything, forcing them to play short-handed gives an incentive to hide them. We might have Liriano available for game 1 in that case.
  20. Fans are so cynical about sports and money. Players care about other factors, just like everyone else. They aren't all greedy pieces of s*** that don't care about their families or teammates.
  21. You would think that the forecast was very positive after 2015, but I don't have a clue.
  22. I can't see Shapiro increasing his offer by much considering this was more of a typical year for Edwin and not a career year. Perhaps they were impressed by his work ethic or leadership though. I sure hope something gets done. We have the money and he's the guy we want and need.
  23. I usually just go to a State Park when travelling in the U.S. My girlfriend and I both love the outdoors and don't mind cereal for breakfast or public showers. I honestly sleep better in a tent and fresh air than a stuffy hotel and some beers at the campfire beats watching TV before bed.
  24. I heard a story on CBC radio about Louis C.K. and how he voids any tickets that are sold online. I think it's great and hilarious.
