  1. Weren't you the one that said Cherington was in charge of the minor leagues too? That was a day after Atkins said the exact opposite. Maybe you should quit stating things as fact when you really have no clue.
  2. I'm still hesitant to assume that Morrow would put up 2+ WPA seasons on a regular basis. Brett Cecil was great this year and put up a negative 2 mark. A lot of it is managerial style and luck in my opinion. I think we made the best decision in making him a starter.
  3. First things first, Sanchez had a 7.8 K/9 at that level and Green has a 6.6 K/9. Take an objective look at his statistics and scouting reports and get back to me. Nobody is impressed by false statistics.
  4. Sanchez had pretty similar K numbers. You miss a lot by only looking at statistics and ignoring the type of stuff he has. That's why most of the forum whiffed on Sanchez. BA had him in their most recent top 100 if you need a second opinion.
  5. Am I to infer that you think WPA is a better way to evaluate relievers? Cy Britton!
  6. Don't write off Conner Greene as a depth option next year. He's right there with a little more consistency.
  7. He undoubtedly had the ability, but predicting a performance that would make him a top 10 reliever in the game is too optimistic for me.
  8. You're averaging 3 very good full seasons with his final 2 where he had 10 and 6 starts in order to get a lower number. He was a 3+ WAR starter with injury problems. I'm skeptical that relief would make him considerably more healthy and I'm extremely skeptical that he'd put up that kind of value in the 'pen.
  9. I don't agree with this. Morrow put up 9.2 WAR over a 3 year span as a starter.
  10. I'd welcome back Revere on a minor league deal.
  11. Those are all fair points. We really just don't know enough to make any concrete conclusions. Sporadic bursts of maximum intensity, high stress pitching will create their own set of unique injury problems in my opinion. The Jays have their own information and might know the answers, but I wouldn't let my ignorance stand in the way of making Osuna a starter if I had to make the decision. For the record, I probably wouldn't do it anyways, but it's nice to have options.
  12. Is max effort a factor? Warm up pitches? None of your arguments mentioned that. Perhaps it's a poor analogy, but sprinters get more injuries than marathon runners. In the absence of facts, I'm still skeptical. Injuries seem to occur just as frequently for relievers.
  13. I'm surprised at the number of people who believe that injury risk is mitigated in a high usage, high stress bullpen role. This may be true, but it doesn't seem obvious and I haven't seen any evidence.
  14. Not to contradict you, but I recently read an interview with Atkins where he said that Cherington would be a jack of all trades. “I call him on a very regular basis on every front. And he’ll be involved in all of our offseason strategy, he’ll be involved in our draft, he’ll be involved in the international process. I’d imagine he’ll help negotiate contracts.”
  15. I recommend alcoholic pain reliever.
  16. They made a quick turnaround, that's for sure. They look pretty good going forward
  17. So we should do a total teardown and rebuild like the Cubs started a few years ago? I'm not sure what part you take issue with.
  18. Well yeah, I said that I do stat scouting. I just don't like how many people write off traditional scouting as old school nonsense (like they did with Sanchez). I prefer a more balanced approach. Guess I was wrong on Shapiro liking what the draft staff had done, lol. He cleaned house pretty quickly.
  19. Here here. I do stat scouting myself to fill in the blanks, but many use it simply to protect themselves from being wrong. How many times have we seen people say 'nobody could have predictes this' when a talented prospect breaks out. More than I can count, that's for sure.
  20. I know I posted mine after the draft in June and a few others did as well, but it was a sporadic thing throughout the season.
  21. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messed up the quote, meat... yer dumn. It always sounds easy so easy as an armchair GM, but options are really limited. What do you do if Matt Joyce doesn't want to play here or someone else offers Desmond a 5 year deal. It will take a combination of free agent signings and trades to accomplish our goals in my opinion.
  22. We had a bunch of people post their rankings in the prospect thread, but no consolidated board effort.
  23. I'd rather shop in the Alex Dickerson / David Peralta tier if we're going to trade for an outfielder.
  24. It's nice to see a scout confirm what I have been saying about Conner Greene all season. He was experimenting a lot with his changeup this season and the numbers weren't as good as they could be at times. Stat scouts miss that kind of thing and had him ranked far too low this season, many on our forum not even top 10. I think he'll surprise those uninformed people as he gets closer to the big leagues. He's got everything you want from a big league pitcher and just needs to make the right adjustments.
  25. I think that Osuna has all of the tools to be a starter and in a bubble, we'd be awfully foolish not to explore that option. We're not in a bubble though and at least 3 situations have to be addressed in my opinion. One is his reticence to become a starter. We don't need to force him to start, so he would ideally be on board with the idea. Two is opening up a rotation spot for him. I don't like the idea of shifting him back and forth between roles. Lastly, we need to address the bullpen situation if we decide to make him a starter.
