    I was going more for age and the bat, but playing a passable shortstop will certainly make him more useful. I just can't get myself too excited about him.

    I can think of better things to spend on than infield Harold Ramirez, but Pearce may have had negative value with all of the injuries.

    Average defender, average power, doesn't walk, doesn't hit for much power. This is a salary dump for a potential backup infielder.

    I admire Craig Breslow's dedication to baseball. They had a good pregame interview with him the other day and although he has made plenty of money, he just loves the game enough to toil away at AA.

    If we trade both Happ and Estrada, it makes too much sense to call him up and see what we have.

    Other teams would certainly ask for guys like Jansen and Alford, but we could probably get it done for less. Perhaps a high level pitching prospect like SRF or Borucki and a lower level bat like Warmoth or Smith.

    In fairness, we've seen enough of Soto at the big league level to say that he is a bad defender right now. He may improve, but he doesn't have the skills that would make you expect such an improvement. That may or may not justify his low ranking, but they aren't far off the mark with their assessment from what I have seen.

    That leaves us roughly one million over slot for Groshans and Kloffenstein. I'd expect a good portion of those savings to come from Christopher Bec.

    We know that Liberatore was willing to sign for slot or slightly less, however. That one still puzzles me.

    I just like to watch my favourite team play baseball. I'll be hoping that they win a lot of games and get back into the race, as unlikely as that seems.

    Calling up Jansen now would hardly be rushing him. He's a 23 year old catcher in his second season at AAA with more walks than strikeouts and a 163 wRC+. The defense seems to have plateaued at average this season and he's probably hit his peak in that regard.

    I do like Jansen a lot, but he's not the type of prospect where I would stunt his development because of service time concerns. He is ready to play in the big leagues right now.

    With Martin transitioning to a utility role, does that create enough space for Danny Jansen to get some legit playing time? He's ready and then some from what I have seen.

    History has proven that younger players always have more success when they force their way onto an established roster. Shapiro is certainly doing the right thing by maintaining a solid collection of veterans and allowing the young players to integrate at their own pace. Everyone knows that this is a .500 team with playoff potential in the right year, including the front office. You constantly speak as if you know more than the team and it's really pretentious and annoying. Shapiro clearly doesn't want guys like Vlad Jr. and Bichette to join a 90 loss team. He wants them to contribute to a winner.

    Hanley Ramirez gets DFA'd. Not surprising, as he is in the midst of his second consecutive negative WAR season.
