  1. Drury just landed a blue chip pitching prospect in Taylor Widener and more in the offseason. It's not like we can't move him again if the need arises.
  2. Value may be fairly close, but McKinney fits a lot better into our timeline for winning. Contreras has interesting stuff, but has no real track record of success outside of 5 starts in low A. He's the type of guy you can get as an IFA. As for Gallegos, I don't place much value on 26 year old relievers with home run problems.
  3. I would have preferred getting a high level arm like Adams or Loaisiga in the trade, but I am pretty satisfied with Drury and McKinney. The arms in Low A that everyone seems to be clamouring for are the type of return that a team with no leverage in the midst of a total rebuild will get. They are a good 5 years away and have maybe a 5% chance of ever making a meaningful contribution. We already have a robust farm system at all levels and we're looking to build a core around Vlad and Bo. This deal will certainly help us in that regard. Shapiro and Atkins are perfectly capable of building a winner and maintaining a strong farm system without bottoming out and tanking.
  4. My point is that he'd be a clear upgrade to the Cardinals bullpen. They would likely be willing to give up something.
  5. The point here is that Happ is a top 30 pitcher by WAR and the only one of those pitchers available on the trade market, making him an asset in high demand. We need to get a very good prospect for him.
  6. Have you seen the Cardinals bullpen?
  7. Five solid starts from Contreras in low A is hardly enough to say that he should be the headline prospect in a deal for an all-star SP.
  8. A younger version of Solarte, a mediocre relief prospect, and a low level pitcher that wouldn't fit into our top 10 is a ridiculously low return. With Happ being in high demand, we will get substantially more from the Yankees or another team.
  9. That's not at all an acceptable return for Happ and Maile.
  10. With the Yankees looking for catching depth, this would be a great time to give Jansen some serious playing time with Martin mentoring him. Happ and Maile for Drury, an advanced SP (Adams, Loaisiga, German) that we can plug into the rotation, and a lower level prospect would be a reasonable deal for both sides. The Yankees don't give up any of their elite guys for the best SP on the market and we get younger at 3 positions.
  11. High walks and high strikeouts with some power from the left side reminds me a lot of Kelly Johnson.
  12. An extremely vocal minority that cares about old tweets more than real life comments and actions makes us overestimate their numbers, but the reality is that most people at the ballpark don't really care no matter what race they are.
  13. https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/amp/mlb/news/mlb-baltimore-orioles-stuck-in-elevator-adam-jones-chris/k8tko4ave77m1bi0rrjm9guml
  14. I've seen plenty of off the cuff comments from good people get blown out of proportion. It's just a bad idea for athletes. The ones who don't use it have very smart people around them.
  15. It boggles my mind that professional athletes even have twitter accounts. Nothing but bad things can come from it.
  16. I would certainty describe someone your height as short, but I'm 6'6 so it seems like most people are short.
  17. MLBTR ranks Happ 6th on the list of available deadline rentals and the top available SP. The best strategy for us, in my opinion, is to hold firm on our asking price and let teams get desperate. If the return is not acceptable then just take the pick or resign Happ.
  18. I don't agree with that at all. Hernandez was a high K guy that had shown real power in the major leagues. Ortiz looks like he'll be lucky to even reach that level. The strikeouts are very concerning. I look back at what Rich Hill got in 2016 in a similar market for pitching. They got two players who were each more valuable on their own than what you are proposing, in addition to Grant Holmes.
  19. We'd get better value from the draft pick if the return is that weak. We got a better return for Francisco Liriano, in the form of a more advanced player very similar to Ortiz. The best pitcher on the market always gets a solid return and I don't expect that to change this year.
  20. The Phils are going to make a run at Happ. I'm not sure they have what it takes without including Medina (assuming Sanchez is not on the table). Romero and Haseley are fairly interesting.
  21. Pearson won't play any significant role in our rotation next year, I'm sure.
  22. To give some perspective, Alex Bregman was still in college at this age would take more than two calendar years to reach the majors. Also, Bichette has made some serious strides with his conditioning and defense. He looks like he could stick at shortstop for a while, which is a big plus. Bregman, meanwhile, can't play a passable shortstop and is also a very poor 3B. Let's give him some the before saying that this is a poor season or a disappointment.
  23. One is named Vlad Guerrero Jr. and one is named Bo Bichette.
  24. It's worth noting that this 15th place ranking comes from a bottom 5 farm system.
  25. They had the 22nd best wRC+ and 28th ISO after he retired. Looks like I nailed it.
