  1. It will be very surprising if Grichuk does his regular thing and gets less than 500 at-bats. If literally anyone but Jansen gets a day off, he'll be in the lineup.
  2. I can think of a few relievers, but only Mike Minor for starters.
  3. Very slow, but the Premier is prioritizing Toronto at the expense of lives in the rest of the province so that bodes well for baseball at least.
  4. I was quite pleased with how things went in Buffalo. It felt like home and you could tell that teams like the Yankees hated it. That's a good option if we can pull it off.
  5. For what it's worth, he was on the fan 590 recently and doubled down on the same comments, but didn't really explain why.
  6. 7 inning double headers and extra inning gimmicks will be back. This is the most disgusting thing the league has done in my lifetime. It's very disheartening to lose my favourite aspect of baseball and all of the great memories that come with it.
  7. You think Gillick went to ownership and got the league's highest payroll for several years? Or created the business model that led to the league's biggest fanbase at the time? It's almost inconceivable that it wasn't a collaborative effort. Others in MLB certainly saw it that way.
  8. Beeston and Gillick worked together for 17 seasons. It's pretty safe to say that they both had a role in the success of the team. People look down on Beeston because of some things he said in his second stint, but he was extremely respected and competent in his day.
  9. I'd be very surprised if this wasn't correct. He's not going to come out and say something unless they were misled by Bauer's camp.
  10. Yes please. A switch hitting bat that can play 3B is a nice fit for us.
  11. I don't know if it's fair to compare guys with a perceived attitude problem to a guy with a domestic abuse charge. The players you listed are more like a Trevor Bauer situation.
  12. I wonder if this leaves Ken Huckaby with another organization. I know he was 'fired' after the season, but I got the sense that the FO was a fan.
  13. Canadian baseball is also important to most fans of the team. It only makes sense for them to do it.
  14. I prefer the Yates deal for close to the same money. Colome is healthier, but his projections are mediocre and his ERA last year was a mirage.
  15. Our interest in Yadier Molina is a little puzzling to me. He's looking for a full time gig, which we can't really offer. His path to playing time is far clearer in St. Louis.
  16. That's right. Very much the same defensive profile as Ozuna.
  17. I don't know if you weren't following, but we pretty much signed a DH and it fell apart at the last minute. The narrative at the time now was that it would free us up to trade a current outfielder for a starting pitcher. This is still an option for us. I don't know why you think signing Semien changed it.
  18. I don't agree with your opinion that we only signed Semien because we lost out on Brantley. Their pursuit of a DH was independent of their search for a 3B. We weren't going to roll with Espinal/Vlad at 3B. Trading an outfielder for a pitcher and signing someone is probably still on the table, despite your insistence that it is not.
  19. Don't be patronizing. I was just sharing the facts of the situation.
  20. I'm not sure that signing Semien has anything to do with it, as they were going to address 3B either way. It seems obvious to me that they wanted to add a veteran bat at DH and trade someone else.
  21. If you believe the Brantley rumours then they certainly do. His defensive profile differs little from Ozuna. I wasn't advocating that we sign a DH, but there appeared to be interest from our FO in doing so.
  22. The league negotiations have given us a bit of clarity regarding the roster. 1. The season will start on time, so that may push ahead free agent timelines a bit. 2. There will be 26 man rosters, so we can plan for an 8 man bullpen again. 3. Most interestingly, there will be no DH in the NL. We know that Atkins has serious interest in a DH bat. Does he now circle back to Ozuna or Cruz and revisit whatever trade talks he had for Tellez/Grichuk/Gurriel/Hernandez at the time of the Brantley signing?
  23. I don't care how many games the season is, how many teams use the DH, or how many teams make the playoffs as long as they scrap the extra innings gimmick permanently. It is hands down the stupidest gimmick I have ever seen in any sport. It disgusts me when the runner trots out to second, I can't even watch.
  24. That was Shapiro last week.
