    I was a little vague with my paraphrasing, sorry. The proposal is to start at 600k next season and be at 700k by the end of this next CBA. It's not a whole lot better than status quo from what I can tell. "Major League Baseball has offered to increase the minimum salary from $570,500 to $600,000, which would rise to $650,000 and $700,000 through the CBA."

    MLB is expected to offer an increase in minimum salary to 600-700k and some superficial changes to qualifying offers. They are not going to address service time concerns at all. The PA is going to love that.

    Since when does one sentence constitute a rant? Also, a fantasy baseball columnist is not an expert on prospects. I put little stock into what a fellow fan has to say about players he has never seen. Give me BA or MLB.com any day.

    I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be given video of potential trade targets to study, especially during the lockout where he can't connect with major league pitchers. It sure sounds like they consulted with him before we traded for Robbie Ray.

    I think we trade for an upcoming FA that Pete Walker belives in, similar to Matz last season. Joe Ross, Sean Manaea, and Chris Bassitt come to mind.

    Albert Pujols is the only remaining active player who was in the league last time the Mariners made the playoffs.

    I agree with all of that. I don't think that removing revenue sharing provides a path to a new CBA. I think that a salary floor with expanded playoffs addresses the major sticking point on each side.

    These teams make more in revenue sharing and TV revenue than they would spend on a 60 million floor or perhaps even an 80 million floor. The notion that they would go bankrupt is ludicrous. Obviously it's not going to make every team competitive. That's an impossibility. However, we would probably see the Orioles and Pirates in on a guy like Seiya Suzuki. Maybe they would add a vet who falls through the cracks and deal him at the deadline. Maybe they would take a Grichuk for a prospect. Teams just not trying at all is such a horrible look for the league. I agree with players that it has to change.

    Why can't there be a floor without a cap? Having a modest floor around 60 million or so will force teams like Baltimore and Pittsburgh to actually add free agent talent or at least accelerate their rebuilds by taking on bad contracts. Having 110 loss teams in long cycles of losing isn't good for the league. Every fan should be 100% behind the players on that one.

    I'd argue that Rolen is clearly the top guy as a top 10 player (by fWAR) at the least represented position in the Hall. Not voting for him is inexplicable.

    Cano is someone I would take a long look at, although I do consider PED use when it comes to borderline candidates. That's particularly harmful for guys like Cano, Ortiz, Ramirez, and Pettitte that are certainly not slam dunks even if they had a clean history. It's too easy to just ignore character and off the field actions entirely. This is a more complex decision than people make it out to be. Bobby Grich just deserves to be in, period.

    He was an awful teammate by all accounts, trashed his managers in front of the media to make himself look good, probably faked the 'bloody sock' incident, among many other things. I don't even care much about his politics, I just really don't like people like that. He's a total scum bag. If he gets in then that's ok and his stats merit strong consideration, but I wouldn't vote for him.

    Bonds Clemens Rodriguez Rolen Kent Some guys like Jones, Ramirez, and Pettitte I would consider later in their candidacy. The others just weren't good enough in my opinion. I wouldn't vote them in just because stupid voters elected Harold Baines. Jeff Kent laps the field when it comes to power from the second base position. He was so good that he created new expectations from that position. This isn't a personality contest for me (except Schilling, he can go f*** himself). Kent's credentials are clearly Hall of Fame worthy.

    Not caring about baseball history is a perfectly valid opinion, but Babe Ruth was still a better player. Measuring players against their peers is the one and only way to evaluate them.

    Babe Ruth is still the superior hitter even if you ignore the steroids and Ruth's pitching statistics. I'm still in awe every time I look at his stat sheet. Anything below 10 WAR was a down year for him.

    Ryu has maintained his velocity and his health hasn't been particularly concerning in his Blue Jay's stint. I have my doubts that being in shape is the root cause of his performance issues.

    Ed Sprague or Tony Batista would be nice fits.

    There wasn't a significant change in Ryu's spin rates or general profile after the sticky stuff ban from what I can see. That could be part of it, but he was having some troubles before the ban.

    Falling off a cliff is a bit dramatic, but it's puzzling what happened to him in 2021. He was quite consistent with velocity, command, and results throughout the season. He just lost a tick off of his K rate and gave up more home runs. Hopefully he can make an adjustment.
