    I sincerely feel so, so bad for Mariners fans. Some of these guys have been watching the least successful franchise in baseball history for 50 years and they are so close, only to have it snatched away at the end. I can't even imagine the devastation that they are feeling.

    Pitching essentially went to plan tonight, but they picked a bad time for the most embarrassing offensive effort in the history of the Blue Jays franchise. We're looking at a lot of history. This will probably be the worst team in the history of baseball to make the World Series. I'll be putting $1000 on the Dodgers to win.

    The Mariners horrific defense is finally costing them in this game. It probably would have come into play a lot more had the games been closer.

    The fact that two teams as awful as this made it to the ALCS is a real indictment on the league. For the first time in my life, the NL is vastly superior to the AL. They probably have at least the 5 best teams right now. The league can't possibly justify any expansion in this half of the league with such little talent.

    The Diamondbacks stats are quite the anomaly. Look at his Mariners stats, he's embarrassingly bad and has been for a long time. Players like Suarez are what drives fans away from the game.

    Let's give up 2 homers to, bar none, one of the easiest players to get out in the entire league. Sounds like a great plan. I said at the deadline that not getting viable relievers would hurt us. I wish it hadn't played out that way.

    We can't hit bad pitching and we have faced a bunch of bad pitching in this series. It's been a problem all season. We had no problem hitting Fried when he was throwing 98 and painting the corners. It seems like a lack of focus to me. We get one of the least talented opponents in ALCS history and we think it's just going to be handed to us on a silver platter. Well it's not. Any team can beat you if you don't try.

    I would agree with you if that were true, but Suarez was definitively in the field of play if you watch the replay. You can see him on the dirt, there's no debate about that.

    The ball was definitely not out of play. That's one of the worst botched calls you'll ever see from an umpiring crew. I get that it's unusual, but they need to know the rules and apply them properly. The runner is out, there's no nuance to the rules.

    I wasn't watching the broadcast, but did they ever explain why there was no interference called on Suarez? The reason I ask is because I umpire baseball from time to time and we once had an on-deck batter struck by an errant throw in a playoff game and we got the book out and looked it up. The rules don't differentiate between on-deck batters or other players on the field of play. Rule 6.01(b) states that in this instance: "the ball is dead, the batter is declared out and all runners return to the bases occupied at the time of the pitch"

    Gilbert, as with all Seattle pitchers, is quite bad on the road. He has a 4.84 ERA and 4.33 FIP with K% way down and BB% way up.

    A lot of things played out like you would have expected tonight: - Gausman dominated a bad lineup with a lot of free outs and their lone good hitter hurt him. - Our bullpen was horrible and gave up a couple of runs, as they have in most of the playoff games so far. - The Mariners made a couple of bad defensive plays, while the Jays played good defense. If the Jays offense is prepared and focused then this game is probably 8-3 and everyone is happy. We saw pitching that was both bad and tired and we just couldn't get anything done. The guys just laid down and didn't put in any real effort. It was one of the most embarrassing performances in Blue Jays playoff history from top to bottom. I expect that we can hold a bad Mariners offense to 2 or 3 runs in every game and that played out here, but if the offense doesn't step up and start hitting against some bad pitching then this series will be over before it gets back to Toronto.

    They do represent the current team pretty effectively. Their rotation and key relievers were remarkably healthy, with just 7 starters making 159 starts. They didn't add any important pitchers at the deadline, so it's been the same guys all season. There's some nuance to this obviously, I get it. I'm just frustrated at the narrative that they are some kind of elite pitching staff when that's obviously not even close to being the truth. It's a stretch to even call them top 10, but I could buy that argument.

    Simply to illustrate how much their park comes into play, I'll use ERA. This Mariners staff that has been quite healthy on the whole is 23rd in road ERA, worse than the Jays.

    Mariners are 14th in starter WAR and 17th in reliever WAR, 18th overall. They're an average pitching team that is very tired. The Tigers were a better pitching team, despite the narrative. I'm very excited to see what our bats can do against them, especially considering that their defense is about as bad as you'll ever see from a playoff team. Their lineup is beatable if JS makes the right moves. Raleigh carried them, but there's a lot of weak spots and free outs if we pitch around him, much like the Yankees lineup. They have a very poor bench to counter any possible moves.

    Luis Castillo faced the Jays twice. He game up 8 runs and 17 hits in just 10 innings. Vlad 3-7 with 3 walks Barger 4-6 with a walk Heineman 4-8 Bo 4-8 with 2 walks Lukes 2-7 with a bomb

    It was unquestionably a swing and I don't think it hit him first either. They f***ed up 3 calls in one inning and the Tigers got out of it. I thought destiny was on their side at that point.

    Bryce Miller faced the Jays on May 11th: 5 Innings, 8 hits, 7 ER, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts Lukes 3-3 with 2 walks Clement 3-4 Springer 2-5 with a bomb Barger 2-4 with a bomb

    I just can't see them pitching Gilbert tomorrow. Yes, it would be on regular rest from his last start, but 34 extremely high stress pitches with runners on is not a side session. That would be an extremely irresponsible move on their part in my opinion, but I would be fine with it.

    Jerry DiPoto says that Bryan Woo will pitch mid-way through the series, so that probably means game 5 unless he's lying or they do something really weird. Kirby is horrendous on the road, so I think it makes the most sense for them to pitch him on regular rest in game 3. I don't know what they do with Gilbert, but he just pitched on short rest in relief. It would be insane Randy Johnson type usage if they used him in Toronto. I think we see Miller and Castillo in the first 2 games. Both of them were lit up by the early season Jays offense. It's really the best scenario we could have imagined. Now they just have to execute.

    Speaking of cooked, their only effective lefty reliever Speier has also been lit up in consecutive games.
