  1. Before I respond, who do you consider the elite teams? Are San Diego, Philadelphia, and Boston among them?
  2. Manoah is number 4. Ryu is, has been, and projects to be a very good pitcher. Whatever concerns you have about him are not based in any logic or facts.
  3. You don't believe in Manoah or what? I think we have 4 and Kikuchi is an awfully talented 4th starter that was an all-star last year.
  4. We got relief pitching mid season last year for an modest price and they were very good. Let's just see what we have here to start the season.
  5. My understanding was that teams do not get to call up replacements for unvaccinated players and will simply have an empty roster spot.
  6. Trent Thornton had a rather good spring with apparently increased velocity (according to Jeff Blair). I think he clinched a spot when Pearson got sick because he can give us some length.
  7. I recall you doing the same thing several times. It's not so nice to be on the other side.
  8. I think the Pearson illness opens up an opportunity for Trent Thornton to get some bulk innings as well.
  9. The season starts on Friday, April 8th at 7 PM. Jose Berrios starts us off against Jon Gray and the Texas Rangers. Kevin Gausman and Hyun Jin Ryu are expected to follow against some combination of Martin Perez and Dane Dunning. Go Jays Go!
  10. I find it extremely unlikely that we add 2 temporary bench players to the 40 man roster.
  11. MLBTR states that the Dodgers are going with 16 pitchers and 12 position players. I thought that was against the rules, but we could definitely pull that off if not.
  12. I'm unconvinced that he is an upgrade over Espinal or Tapia as a backup at any of those positions or that he can hit major league pitching in general. We'll find out if he makes the roster.
  13. What exactly does a guy like Espinal but not as good add to this roster?
  14. Mauricio Dubon on the Giants is out of options and could be available. Nick Gordon on the Twins may also be available, I'm not sure of his option status. Neither is perfect, but the IF/OF defense combo is rare.
  15. So our bench is: Espinal Tapia Collins (probably) There aren't many internal options to fill the final bench spot, but a bunch of guys are about to become available before opening day. What kind of player should we be looking for?
  16. That's a possibility, but I strongly believe that Greg Bird would still be with the team if we were prepared to offer him a roster spot on opening day.
  17. I have to think that someone better than Katoh or Lukes will become available in the next day or two as teams pare down their rosters.
  18. I'm making an assumption based on how pretty much every minor league contract works, but this clause was triggered because we didn't add him to the MLB roster. This was a Blue Jays decision.
  19. It's clear that he has some hitting ability based on his minor league track record, like you say. Until we get a better option, I think he makes the team. His presence allows you to pinch run or pinch hit for Kirk and Jansen. I think that's more valuable than what another 40 man guy like Palacios or Lopez would add.
  20. I wouldn't be surprised to see an outside addition join Bird, Tapia, and Espinal on the bench. My best guess from the existing 40 man is Zack Collins himself.
  21. I don't really understand what the Marlins are doing. They give away Cimber in a salary dump and then pay assets to get a similarly talented reliever.
  22. I agree. We were going to be in a bit of a pinch had we lost McGuire on waivers. Our catching depth in AAA was rather poor.
  23. Foreshadowing.
  24. Top 3 worst off the top of my head is: Halladay for Drabek, et al. Young for Loaiza Olerud for Person Dickey provided positive value and Syndergaard, while great, was on the IL at least half of his 6 controllable years. It's really bad, but I don't know about the worst in our history.
  25. Thank you sir. Go Jays!
