  1. Yeah I’m sure it would be an interest bearing account, but they still have to pay out the cash for it each year. It’s not the most lucrative way to invest that much money each year.
  2. Actually the worry could be if WW3 breaks out and there’s a temporary hold on mlb baseball, Ohtani’s money would still be there without courts. I read it from a legit source but I’ll look again
  3. They still have to put the $68m each year into escrow though, I read.
  4. Outside shot for Boston too, maybe.
  5. I’ve been busy, Jim. I’m not watching CNN and Rachel Meadows all day.
  6. It would seem he’s actually just pulling a Tom Brady, and not something more diabolical.
  7. Also, agreed I wouldn’t have thought the work around would be so easy on the state tax. So he could just move to FL (or just list his 8th home there as his primary) and pay $0 for state tax. I’m sure Uncle Sam never gets shafted, as it’s US income no matter what. Of course, he’s also probably subject to federal income tax going up, so could be a wash.
  8. I don’t get why if he’s deferring 98%, why does he still count against the cap for $46m if deferred money doesn’t count.
  9. This is kind of funny when you relate it to Vlad, Manoah, and Kirk. I was just reading an article on Zion Williamson on how the Pelicans are stressing him to diet and stay in shape and if hasn’t worked. The article had a quote from Zion this last season when asked about staying in shape: “It's hard, man. I'm 20, 22, have all the money in the world. Well, it feels like all the money in the world. It's hard," Williamson said over the summer when asked about eating healthy and staying in top physical shape. At least he’s honest. If not for the money, you’re in the majors and getting tail at the clubs/parties
  10. Robert was better in Year 1 and 2 than this year. Year 3 power outage was weird. Definitely major red flags with injury. Unlike a Varsho, he’s proven in both the minors and big that he can hit for average. He’s more valuable than Varsho was, hands down. If he had put it all together, he would be untradable (which the WS claim he is), but as-is, you’d need something more than RT and OM to make it enticing. Next
  11. Moncada had that one good year and 1/14 may not be out of the realm of some team taking it on.
  12. It would be a dumbass trade for WS. Trade your huge assets for a weak return, so you can shed payroll to buy other FA that aren’t as good as the guys you traded?
  13. Robert is a 4 year controllable player w/MVP upside. RT doesn’t start a conversation.
  14. I reject that deal in fantasy before I’m done reading it.
  15. Yeah, it’s really hard to believe Jays weren’t the patsy. Unlike other cases, they should get an E for effort here though. They were probably down for $500m+ at least and that’s impressive.
  16. It should be noted that none of us understand the bigger picture on offering a $700m deal. It’s unfair to assume they’re just like “now we’ll win more games”.
  17. There’s deferred examples. I mistakingly thought the salary for the year was what luxury tax was based on, but it’s not Recently $75m was deferred wtih Devers
  18. It’s also why SD gave Darvish so many years. LT is based on your yearly payroll I’d wager
  19. Tatis as an example was backloaded to avoid luxury tax. Other SD just too I believe. Machado etc
  20. I think this is wrong. I’ll fact check it myself before bedtime
  21. Bro, are you f***ing serious? lol.. how can you take an issue with large contracts if you don’t know that they often get heavily backloaded and guys are making like $15m a year towards the cap
  22. In his defense, it may be important to him after LAA situation.
