There really is no clear sign of decline with Teo. I would not bet against a 140 wRC. Anyone that would is dumb. He’s showed in large stretches there was no fluke. You could argue his timing got f***ed up missing time.
Anyways, not signing someone to a contract qualifies as being savvy. Not dumping a main piece with one year left when you’re a WS hopeful. Small time teams like Tampa may do it, yeah. But guess what, if their bats don’t go on a crazy fluke like that one year, basically you’re drastically reducing your chances in the post-season
Tampa is not worried about that sort of thing. They aren’t building a team for the playoffs. It’s for regular season wins.
