Espinal sucks ass. He’s terrible so I understand the utility of having IKF If he’s your *fifth* infielder it’s fine. He’s a good defender who can cover SS which is important. Like the last two years the only reason Espinal has been on the team is because there is literally no one else to back up Bo. The Steve Pearce tree needs to be cut down now If he’s the starting third baseman and you have to keep Espinal around because of it then this signing looks like s***

Idk man, I’d feel more comfortable if they had any confidence these prospects could play third but doesn’t seem like they do. My concern is the infield It’s it currently stands 1B: Vlad/Biggio 2B: Schneider/Biggio/Espinal 3B: IKF/Biggio/Espinal SS: Bichette/IKF/Espinal Not worried about the outfield it will be fine But the infield is an injury away from looking like Buffalo’s I know somebody is going to say “well you could say that about every other team” but the goal is to be better than every other team Now if they bring in someone who can actually play third and sort of hit, moving IKF to a super utility roll things look much better

I’ve said the same that the balance of the season will depend on bounce backs from guys already on the team but there are still clear needs in an OF corner and DH/1B at bats Guys like IKF and KK are valuable as compilers over 162 games. Floor raisers. They don’t have the same ability to impact the post season as they do over the course of the season
