    Most good teams have old players. The Tigers, Mariners, Dodgers come to mind. Most teams aren't the Cubs or Red Sox. This notion that we are quickly becoming the Phillies is nauseating, and the oldest team in baseball tag will be removed next year. An injection of youth would be nice this year, but isn't entirely necessary. A year from now there's a very real chance that guys like Alford, Tellez, SRF and Greene are close to contributing.

    41 year old Dickey, 39 year old Grilli, 39 year old Benoit, 35 year old Bautista all push that number through the roof. I only expect one of those guys to be on the opening day roster 2017.

    The front office's complete lack of trust in him tells me more than anything else. Dalton Pompey playing a corner outfield spot seems really unsexy, even if he provides plus D. I hope the team can find a better option than him.

    Tellez is not starting the year in Toronto. The Jays don't really have any players to fill those holes immediately unless you count guys like Danny Barnes and Matt Dermody as pen guys, but those aren't really the reinforcements you want to add there.

    Obviously I meant before the conversation about Adam Eaton. Before that, I wasn't aware how good Adam Eaton had been last year. Adam Eaton is valuable because he seems like a good bet to produce 10-12 wins over the next 3 years for 18.5M with two team friendly options. The hypothetical that was being discussed was Stroman for him, and I would do that in a heart beat.

    And while I agree with your premise that defensive metrics can vary year to year, that contract is a steal. I wonder where he was on Fangraphs trade value list last year and where he will be this year

    JG34 (formerly JaysGuy34) made the BBDL forum league championship as the 8th seed in 2015 and left Kyle Schwarber in the minors the entire playoffs. Was a puzzling move to say the least.

    That contract is super sexy too. I would trade Stroman for Eaton in a heartbeat. He's like Melky Cabrera with good defense and stolen bases.
