  1. How is Brentz so high on is list when guys like Labourt and Robson aren't even on it?
  2. You seriously would rather have that bozo behind the plate every game than have Goins starting at 2B? That's ridiculous, I think you're forgetting how bad JPA is. He's abysmal defensively, he's abysmal offensively. He's a nightmare off the field. Goins has a subpar bat, but he's a defensive whiz and would greatly help the pitchers.
  3. So you'd rather have JPA or Thole over Goins?
  4. Well Steamer has JPA as a great defender so I'm not really gonna buy that at all. We're talking about the guy who had a OBP hovering around .220
  5. But he's not. Goins is an excellent defender, JP is horrendous. Goins is probably even similar at the plate. JP had negative WAR, Goins didn't.
  6. I think C and pitching are by far the most important to upgrade. We have a few options at 2B, but nothing at C and a of course pitching was a disaster this year.
  7. Let's trade everyone and play those guys. I feel like it would work out better in the long run.
  8. Yeah, but this was over 1 WAR in only 100 games.

How long before Carlyle starts to hate Rielly, just like Kadri and Gardiner. It's a complete joke that Kadri was playing with Orr and Ashton, the whole team didn't look great today, but Carlyle did absolutely nothing to help them win.
  10. I'm didn't calculate it with a UZR/150 of 33. I calculated it with a number of 18. That's much more reasonable
  11. Yes it is. We just went through this. 13 runs if he continues his great defensive play, and steamer has him at -17 for Offense, with .1 WAR total (and thats only with 5 defensive runs). The boost puts him at 1 WAR in 100 games.
  12. Pete Walker better be fired next to make up for this
  13. Except Steamer had him at around -17 offensive runs. I swear I just saw it on fangraphs page for Goins, but now its gone.
  14. Steamer has him at .1 WAR taking into account his bat. BTW just a minute ago it had his steamer projections for next year and now its gone.
  15. There you go. 1 WAR over 90-100 games.
  16. Ok Steamer has him at .1 WAR in 97 games next year. With 5.3 Def. Let's say he puts up a great defensive year, which he is definitely capable of considering he is a SS playing 2B and he was fantastic this year. With 18 UZR/150 thats almost 11 UZR. The scale for 2B seems to be around +2. Thats 13 Def, which is much more than 5.3. I don't know the formula for WAR, but that definitely puts him much higher than .1
  17. Well Goins is really a SS playing 2B, so that's why its so high.
  18. That still doesn't mean Goins can't put up 25-30 UZR/150 next season.
  19. Oh this topic is far from over. Someone with more knowledge tell me if I screw this up Goins UZR/150: 33.1 in 260 innings That's not historical, it actually only 3rd best this year. Uribe: 35.3 Victorino: 35.3 Parra: 32.3 Machado: 31.8 Pollock: 28.6 Gomez: 27.2 Now someone else who put a very high number in a similar amount of innings as Goins: Craig Gentry: 29.3 in over 300 innings 3 years ago. Next two seasons? Both over 30. So the question is why can't Goins keep this up? He might not be the top defensive player, but how do we know he's not top 5 or top 10?
  20. GD, you can say all you want about how bad Goins is, but it doesn't change the fact that Phillips isn't close to enough of an upgrade to consider giving up all that value.
  21. Oh man just imagine if Goins defies the odds and becomes an everyday guy. This will be hilarious to read
  22. The thing is you guys haven't showed me proof that Goins happened to have a lot of balls hit just at the edge of his range, giving him chances to make amazing plays. The only thing you have is the fact that no one else put up numbers similar to Goins. He's probably inflated a little because he's probably not a legendary defender, but he's still excellent.
  23. How can you possibly tell me that one can quantify defensive ability with precision? The fact that its very hard is known without understanding sabr defensive stats.
