Martin has some appeal to the roster construction of a team trying to succeed in 2019, hence why the Dodgers want him. Toronto doesn’t fit that definition. Who cares if a 77 win team has a funny little C/3B/Manager who can play 70 games, manage ten, and be worth a win or so? It’s worth nothing to Toronto

The disparity in scouting reports on Brito is very amusing. Eddy Almaguer from Prospects Live: "He had one of the most advanced gloves in that class and it’s only improved since then. From his footwork, to a strong arm and equally strong instincts, he’s a lock to stay at shortstop and compete for hardware one day... He lacks bat speed... He has fringe-average pop that’ll show itself in games infrequently..." Eric Longenhagen from Fangraphs: "Brito does have legitimate, above-average raw power, and he’s capable of hitting balls out to all fields, even as a teenager, something not typical of middle infield prospects... He has a chance to stay at second base, but he hasn’t really improved there since signing, and some scouts think his defense has actively gone backwards as his frame has thickened..." - They are at least a full grade apart on the raw power, maybe 1.5 grades - The defense ranges from what sounds like a double-plus SS to what sounds like a fringe-average 2B lmao

Look up win curves, marginal win values, etc. This is basically just arbitrage. Russell means more to a competitive team than he does to Toronto

I didn’t complete my thoughts about him properly and need to retract and clarify - he’s a 70th percentile performer ignoring position and defensive skill at his position, so he’s obviously better than that and therefore better than Abbadessa. Probably more like a top 20 position prospect for 2018 from the Pioneer League, based on stats. He’s Richard Urena in four years, maybe.

Sometimes I wish I was a more serious poster. Sopko is the key to justification for me. There's actual value to an MLB-ready SP depth arm like him, with full control, even if the upside is limited. If it was two Ronny Britos coming back I would not like this much

I am very uncomfortable with this infield depth chart: Lourdes - SS Travis - 2B Drury - 2B/3B ^ These guys are all very real flop candidates and we don't even really know if Drury can competently play 2B, or 3B, or whatever. Urena - BN - horrendous projections. I wonder if the team thinks he is a plus SS or something. Sogard - NRI (not on 40) - probably better than Urena lol Bo Espinal Smith Biggio ^ all not really ready to provide depth in 2019 Team is set up well for 2020 depth but it's gross right now and it keeps me up at night.

Brito was roughly a 70th percentile prospect in the Pioneer League last year. His chances of having an MLB outcome are probably extremely slim. He is about as valuable as Dominic Abbadessa.
