  1. Yeah I suppose you're right. When you take the highest of the average of a select few of his more important stats and look at them in totality and factor in the eye test, he is overrated! The fact that he had 6.5 WAR this season after hitting .234 last season basically tells you all you need to know about WAR. What is it good for? Finish my sentence
  2. Ben Zobrist is 37. He was a great poster boy for modern baseball about a whole decade ago. The OBP and positional versatility combo is kind of passé now -- it's all about athleticism and next level hitting/pitching mechanics now. Candidates for the face of "new age baseball" that pop to my mind might be... Trevor Bauer Matt Chapman Joey Gallo Chris Taylor Trevor Story Alex Bregman Whit Merrifield Luke Maile Sheryl Ring
  3. Francisco Cervelli to Boxy, along with MiLB #52 MiLB #16 to me
  4. + most these would be very, very high end outcomes, 75th percentile and above, for Biggio. IMO.
  5. Trade Block Notes Most Available These productive and formerly elite veterans are available (but I won't be just shipping them off for whatever I can get): Jake Arrieta Michael Brantley Andrew McCutchen I had a deep MLB roster at season end so I have a ton of back-end(ish) but keepable dudes that can fill out a 20 man list on a good team. Some of these might be available for pick upgrades. Some I might prefer to deal in 2-for-1s for a younger keeper. I probably don't have room for all of these names right now so will have to ship some out. Francisco Cervelli Evan Gattis Corey Dickerson Derek Dietrich Jedd Gyorko Collin McHugh Trevor Cahill Gio Gonzalez Mike Minor Also Available I have a relatively elite bullpen. It's young so I don't need to deal these guys but they are available for appropriate value, or within bigger trades: Brad Hand Dellin Betances Raisel Iglesias Seranthony Dominguez And I also have a list of younger but moveable assets. Most of these would probably only work in bigger deals: Robert Gsellman Joey Wendle Jeff McNeil Greg Bird Brandon Lowe Franklin Barreto Ryan Yarbrough Jose De Leon
  6. "extension" has to be the worst hitting scouting term
  7. Trade To TCA: David Price + MiLB #112 + waiver #92 to Me: Dylan Bundy + Franklin Barreto + Jose De Leon + MiLB #33 + waiver #13
  8. Important reference for analyzing exit velocity. As Tango explained, the key take home is that average exit velocity measures can be pretty awful to use. Balls hit 70 - 90 mph have about the same expected wOBA. So a player who hits a bunch of balls 90 mph exactly will be a worse hitter than a guy who hits half of them 70 mph and half of them 110 mph, even though their average exit velocities will be identical.
  9. Kind of strikes me as the type of guy who would just extend with the org he is currently with, forever
  10. I had a lot of interest in Triston and am selling but after seeing under the hood, I am definitely OUT. Thanks King.

    Try the goals record?
  14. what is this even supposed to mean?
  15. I mean it might if they are like, top 20 org prospects though.
  16. Russell Martin is absolutely the hill that I will die on in the 2019 Offseason Roster Discussion Threads. He should be on the 2019 roster, full. f***ing. stop. and there is barely an argument to the contrary. Here I will present the only such argument to the contrary: "If some team really values Martin for some reason and will take on a big chunk of his salary and/or give Toronto a decent talent return then they should trade him." That's pretty much it. Cutting him is retarded. He's also the Manager of the Future (MOTF).

I am so excited for this season. It's business time.
  18. I’m wiggling David Price and Jacob Arrieta around now if anyone wants to make a wise offer
  19. I wonder what realmin is doing these days He's probably a douchey financial district guy with a coke habit. or dead.
  20. Man the Yankees will for sure regret that trade when Stanton goes into the HOF with a Yankees cap on
  21. The worth of a compensation pick is a math question, not a question to be answered from a rough cross-section of anecdotes.
  22. I doubt they will be any worse next year but I don't think they'll be significantly better either. They've probably bottomed out IMO because the 2019 team should at least be a bit more entertaining.... The 2019 roster will be eminently more watchable with young players like Jansen and Vlad and others in the fold. These guys, along with expected bounce backs from some of the core players like Stroman or Sanchez, will also probably mean that the Jays have at least a couple of above average / star level players even if the overall team doesn't win much. There will also be some interesting to watch "sink or swim" young players like Biggio, McKinney, Alford, SRF, Drury, etc. (guys who could be good but could also, reasonably, bust entirely). Decent chance the defense is horrendous again but it could also turn around if athletic guys like Alford and Bo can get a foothold.
