  1. I think this is true Value of good framers is reduced but it might not be by a significant degree A lot of framing isn't even about stealing strikes. It's about getting the right calls on pitches that clip the zone, or weird pitches that normally fool umps like high curveballs and cross ups and pitches that miss on the other side of the plate. ALSO the catchers can challenge so catchers with a good sense of the zone get a huge increase to value!!!!
  2. Two but if you succeed you don't lose the challenge. And you get additional challenges in extra innings. I think it makes sense. Can't have sloppy challengers just slowing down the game. Make it so that people only challenge with confidence.
  3. Nice. Seems to be exactly as rumoured. Hopefully it's snappy and they show the result on the scoreboard in like 10 seconds, like tennis.
  4. Clement is kind of the lynch pin of the whole team with his production, defensive skill and versatility, and personality.
  5. Timmy Tacos getting activated today? These lineups are starting to gross me out. Barger, Lukes, Heineman, Gimenez, Loperfido, IKF, and France are all below 100 wRC+ since Aug 1st. Since Sept 1st, add Schneider, Kirk, and Straw to the s*** list. And then since Sept 8th (last 2 weeks) Vlad and Varsho have also been plugs. Only Springer and, surprisingly, Clement, are over 100 wRC+ in all those samples. George really carrying the offense. Geeze. 211 wRC+ in the second half.
  6. Gausman, Scherzer, Bieber vs Giolito, Crochet, Bello Jays should win games 1 and 3. Game 2 is a punt unless Crochet has a blister or something. Then... Yesavage, ???, Gausman vs Seymour, Houser, Boyle I am assuming the ??? will be some Berrios/Lauer combo. Jays again line up well to take 2 of 3 but it's the stupid Rays and Joe Boyle will probably strikeout 14 so who knows. Hopefully the division is locked up before that final Gausman start so he can just throw three innings and dip.
  7. PREDIKSHIN JAYS GO 2-4 AND THE YANKEES GO 4-2 MAXIMUM PAIN FOR YANKEES FANS
  8. Vlad and Bo injuries really screwed up the Jays offense Bo was on fire. Vlad was too before his little hammy strain. He has been pretty bad since. .300/.351/.400 for a measly 109 wRC+ and only 2 homers in those 111 AB. A really empty batting average! Dude had a 180 wRC+ for the two months prior to getting hurt.
  9. They need to just redefine the standard of review. Get rid of this "clear and convincing evidence" language. Change it to something like "the call on the field shall be overturned if the replay official determines that there is reasonable evidence that the call on the field was incorrect" And then instruct the replay officials that they don't need a "smoking gun" anymore, they just need video that shows that the call on the field was probably wrong. If the video is a coin-flip then the on field call stands. EZ Oh yeah, and we are moving the MLB central replay war room to Regina.
  10. Actually, you could say that the standard of proof is even higher. To convict someone of a crime like murder you need to prove that they did it "beyond a reasonable doubt." To overturn an MLB ump's ruling you need "clear and convincing evidence" that the call was wrong. Semantics, but you could say that the burden of proof is higher in baseball video reviews lol.
  11. I still can't even fathom an explanation for that Varsho play not being ruled a catch. well, I guess I can. maybe for one frame the ball was not visible in the glove and some loser with a Jeter tattoo on his back took the position that it was therefore not possible to prove with 100% certainty that the ball wasn't touching a blade of grass at that moment. Not sure why the burden of proof for overturning a baseball ump's ruling needs to be as high as a murder conviction, but here we are.
  12. 6 games left for everybody. Still some mathematically possible "weirdness" as there always is in baseball. See below. However, remote chance that any of that matters. All that *probably* matters is the Yankees. 2 game lead with a tiebreaker. That makes the magic number 4. 4-2 and there is nothing the Yankees can do. 3-3 or worse and the Yankees could flip it. 3-3 and NYY needs to go 6-0; 2-4 and NYY needs to go 5-1. Shame the useless O's could not walk it off in the 9th last night. Weirdness: Boston could pass Toronto. Would need to go 6-0 while Toronto goes 0-6. Houston could tie/pass Toronto. Would need to go 6-0 while Toronto goes 0-6. Houston has this tiebreaker. Cleveland could tie Toronto. They are tied 3-3 in the regular season. Not sure who has the tiebreaker then? I read that CLE does because of divisional record, lol. I think Toronto could still technically end up as the third best division winner, but it would take some very unlikely shuffling. e.g., Toronto going 0-6, Yankees going 2-4, then Settle going 4-2 and Detroit going 6-0. Something wild like that. So, every other playoff team and Houston could individually still catch Toronto, but Toronto locked in a spot because Cleveland and Detroit still play each other, i,e, they can't *all* pass Toronto. It is kind of too bad that there aren't more matchups remaining between these teams. Cleveland v Detroit is big, but other than that there is a lot of scoreboard watching and contenders finishing out their years playing puff ball teams. Yes Boston plays both Toronto and Detroit but I am not sure those head to head matchups are significant. On the NL side, the only think to watch is the Mets fall apart while the Reds sneak into the playoffs. Hilarious s*** from the Mets.
  13. I must say I do not miss the one game tiebreakers Making the season series matter just makes the regular season games more meaningful which feels right Playing a team 13 times and then having to do a coin flip game would be so goofy. Was goofy.
  14. Suddenly the Yankees could flip it If the Jays go 3-4 and the Yankees could realistically go 6-1 against the Orioles and White Sox. At least they line up to face Bradish twice, Rogers once, and Shane Smith. Four actual starters. Not seven Dean Kremers or Sean Burkes. Jays matchups look like... Wacha, Giolito, Bello, Crochet, Houser, Pepiot, Seymour. Last six at home is a big deal.
  15. Offense in a funk? Better start Kiner Falaffle!!!
  16. Toronto is going to limp to the finish and still win the AL with like 93 wins, right? Worst American League... ever!?
  17. Royals placed one of their best RP, Erceg, on the IL today
  18. 92% chance to win the division after 54 games Fangraphs projections loooooved the Yankees geeze
  19. i wonder if eastcoastjaysfan is still alive
  20. Detroit still plays Cleveland and Boston 3x each Magic numbers miss those kinds of little details. Guaranteed losses among multiple chasers.
  21. Blue Jays' chance to win the division per Fangraphs was 97.5% two days ago It now sits at a mere 91% COLLAPSE!!!!!!!!
