  1. Banking a game is huge in a five game series. Jays are the easy favourites now, regardless of the SP matchups. And then you look at the SP matchups and realize the Jays have done well against all three of them this year.
  2. I'm just going Gausman, Bieber, Yesavage in that order. Gausman for game 5. Game 4 is my only question. I would have Varland as the opener but I'm not sold on who would follow him. Arguments for any of Scherzer, Bassitt, Lauer.
  3. If Bo is the DH I doubt Scamtander even starts. Pinch hitter. Can't have Springer and him in the OF in a playoff game. Crazy bad.

  5. Luis Gil over Will Warren is questionable Warren 162 innings, 4.07 FIP, 100 Stuff+ and Location+ Gil 57 innings, 4.62 FIP, ugly K and BB rates, 100 Stuff+ 93 Location+ Are they scared of throwing WW because Toronto dunked 8 runs on him that one time? Gil faced Toronto and only had 1 K in 6 innings. Avoided runs but didn't get whiffs.
  6. Yes but we don't have a Jarren Duran to clank an easy catch and lose the clinching game
  7. Remember, the Jays are the Yankees' daddy this year. We have Little and Fluharty and two splitter god SP to neutralize their LHB. Volpe is going to s*** his pants on national television after making a horrendous error. Run wild on Judge's arm.
  8. Will Warren game 1 is my guess
  9. Detroit is pathetic
  10. NYY BOS could get spicy tonight Two younger pitchers going. Don't expect them to go deep. For New York it would be three in a row for Cruz, Bednar, and Williams (and 4 in 5 days) so I wonder if Boone will shy away from any of them, not necessarily to protect them but just because they may not be effective. Doval and Leiter are clearly not in the circle of trust but may have to pitch if Schlitter can't eat innings. Boston will probably not have Whitlock available so they may need multiple innings from some mediocre middle relief options. Prediction - Boston wins 9-7. Yankees bullpen and defense blow it.
  11. It's pretty dumb. I guess they like brackets because casual fans can understand them and companies can just throw up a graphic.
  12. The October 4th schedule possibilities are weird as hell. If New York wins... 2 MIL v SDP/CHC 4 TOR v NYY 6:30 PHI v LAD 8:30 SEA v CLE/DET If Boston wins... 1 TOR v BOS 4 SEA v CLE/DET 6 PHI v LAD 9 MIL v SDP/CHC Someone explain this to me? Boston over New York makes them jump the Milwaukee series from 2 ET to 9 ET??? Why would anything change at all?
  13. MFW I get a 399 foot flyout to end the inning
  14. I think Elly is more in the Julio Rodriguez category because of the strikeout rate, and overall K-BB rate. Will always go through slumps and highs that cap him as more of a 6 WAR dude.
  15. Does MLB have playoff game time priorities backwards? Today: 3 PM - DET-CLE --> few will watch other than DET, CLE, and hardcore baseball fans 8 PM - BOS-NYY --> many will watch Why not: 3 PM - BOS-NYY --> many will watch. it's freaking boston new york. 8 PM - DET-CLE --> many will watch, it's prime time playoff baseball
  16. So I guess it's Early vs Schlittler And definitely no Whitlock available Red Sox will be sweating it out in the middle innings.
  17. Nearly 50 pitches for Whitlock. Cora...
  18. They handled Cease as they should have, and how they should have handled Pivetta yesterday.
  19. But there would be no terrible alternative. If the rule were different Austin Wells would have just... not blocked the plate, and Bo is almost certainly out anyway, but nobody is hurt.
  20. No, that's just silly. If Austin Wells got the ball so early he could run up the line and make it impossible through distance for Bo to go around or through him and touch the plate - fair game. But he got the ball and then immediately slid his entire body to block and cover the plate. There is nothing about that which stems from "meeting the runner with the tag". He sat down in front of homeplate. These are different tactics. A fielder could still benefit from getting the ball so early by just coming off the bag, removing the bag/plate from the equation. Pickle the runner. Indeed, this is what every fielder but the catcher seems to do, naturally. Because the game doesn't seem to permit blocking second base in the same way it permits blocking off homeplate.
  21. None of this is very relevant It would be easy to keep all of the baseline obstruction rules as-is and simply add a new rule that for any plays at a base or homeplate the fielder cannot entirely obstruct the base or plate (unless necessary to field the ball, or some caveat like that) Where do you draw the line? The bases! It would be absurd to say that the fielder with ball needs to give the runner a sliding line if there is nothing to slide to.
  22. Kayfus, DeLauter, and Manzardo emerging around Jose Ramirez and Kwan gives them a chance at a respectable offense. They need to figure out C/SS/2B though. Some horrendous bats up the middle. Maybe Bazzanna and Cooper Ingle.
  23. Baseline rules already exist, are not problematic, and have nothing to do with what we are talking about, which is plays around the plate / bases where a slide is happening or possible. Nice try
