  1. Sammy did cut Papi and Imhof. I missed his PM on Saturday.
  2. More scouts can = better information, but only if you're applying them correctly. Getting scouts to new regions is one way that it could help. Maybe having more cross-checkers would help too (for obvious sample size reasons). Dalton Pompey might be one example of how extra scouts could help. How many teams were on the high school kid coming out of John Fraser in Mississauga? It was in their own backyard so it's not fair to say that extra scouts helped Toronto identify his tools, but imagine that Miami or some team way down there saw him, liked him, and took him. Dan Jansen is another cold weather kid. Wisconsin. Some teams just don't have the bodies to scout these places. Why waste a scout in a region where one kid might pop up every year, when you can just park that scout in a motel in Florida that's a 3 hour drive from hundreds of legit prospects? Cross-checking just helps add a little bit of confidence to tool grades that can be pretty dumb/random/hard to grade. If I was running a scouting department all of my underlings would hate me because I'd be pretty strict about keeping them from sharing any information whatsoever, looking up any statistics, or even watching games together. Important to be blind!
  3. guys guys guys jaysblue traded Mike Olt and Matt Davidson for Kennedy and Werth. also, looks like silvergun got some Donaldson payback by sending min spare parts for Lucroy.
  4. I'll send you edit privileges on the Google Doc, North, so that you can help curate the trade history going forward (if you want).
  5. yay! North, you can stay in the league for one more season, I guess.
  6. a masterpiece. mods, please bronze and lock this thread.
  7. Scout - "Aaron Sanchez has trouble with his command" Coach - "Aaron Sanchez has trouble with his command so let's destroy his lower body mechanics and increase his risk of arm injury, all while failing to help his command in any noticeable way"
  8. Correct. They are two different forms of commonly peddled psuedoscience, as practiced. Scouts are like naturopaths. Coaches are like naturopathic surgeons. The former knows much less than he thinks he does. The latter knows the same amount as the former, but he gets to tinker with bodies on top of it.
  9. For every scout that said "Wow, Zach Duke's new mechanics are going to make him a killer reliever", you'd get several saying similar things about different players that would not have come to fruition. ex, "I think with these new mechanics, Ricky will be able to be much more consistent on the mound" "I think Adeiny is one of the elite defensive shortstops in the game" "Esmil's new sinker makes him a good candidate to stick in an MLB starting rotation" How do you parse that information? You can't, really. So the lot of it is more or less junk. You're not going to buy into a scout's opinion that Bautista's new leg-kick makes him an elite power hitter any quicker than the data will start to show you that same thing. If you're willing to buy in immediately, you're going to end up with a lot of turds on your roster at the behest of a scout's whim.
  10. I have no valuable trade block assets but I'll take him!
  11. When Cabrera and Weeks settle for $2.5M contracts, it becomes pretty obvious that Toronto has all of its eggs in the Devon Travis basket. There are no sensible reasons why anybody, no matter how stupid or misinformed, would expect anything but replacement (or sub-replacement) level play from Goins+Izturis. All we can hope for is that Travis gets the job early on and at least approaches his projections.
  12. Couple of currently penciled in veterans, and then several guys who should have firm holds on setup gigs.
  13. Notes: - As discussed, the rule about players needing to be in the Yahoo system in order to be waiver drafted will be maintained. Sorry, Hector Olivera fans. - Going forward, international free agent players who were subject to international spending cap limitations will be treated the same as domestic prospects that did not hit AA in the previous season. So, they are not eligible to be waiver drafted even if they are in the Yahoo system, and they cannot be added to your MLB team unless they debut in the big leagues (in which case they will hit waivers). They can be drafted in the June prospect draft, of course. - The waiver draft order is listed on Proboards -> Draft Picks -> 2015 Waiver Draft Order. It has been updated to reflect recent trades. - Completed trades can now be posted and confirmed on Yahoo.
  14. Noteworthy? Sure. I expect him to hit much like Thames did in his major league career (96 wRC+; low OBP high ISO). That's definitely fantasy relevant for a SS eligible. Only 3 SS hit 20+ HR last year. Alexei Ramirez had a .713 OPS and he's your 5th ranked SS in Yahoo right now. If Kang plays every day then I think he'll be fantasy relevant. If his defense isn't good then he won't play every day though. So I think that's the rub. I'm not sure that I'd want to spend a super high waiver pick on him though. I guess it depends on team composition. Personally, I wouldn't have room right now for a flier like Kang so if I had a top 5 pick I'd probably grab a clozer or something.
  15. Sammy needs to cut two prospects asap... If he doesn't in the next couple of days then I'm just cutting Boyd and Imhof for him.
  16. The rankings on this Fangraphs list seem really, really good.
  17. Fangraphs 200 was kind to me Urias - 4 Harvey - 36 Manaea - 37 Mondesi - 61 Pompey - 80 Fedde - 95 (pleasant surprise) Nick Williams - 136 AJ Cole - HM (kinda s*****) Arano and Jose Ramirez didn't make it and have little chance to make it past my cuts later on. Chris Taylor is super low upside so I wouldn't expect him to make it, but I do think he can be an IRL 50 FV player some day. Justin Williams could maybe have been an HM but wasn't.
  18. We are all a bunch of incredulous jerks, but it's ok. That's why we've been outcast by society to the internet.
  19. Urias at #4 makes me all kinds of smug
  20. Hey can you please tell us that story about how you saw Rendon in college one more time you f***ing geezer.
  21. Looks like Sammy has 14 prospects on the spreadsheet. Did he forget to cut two, or did we just miss it in the shuffle?
  22. Weise was a point-per-game player his last year in junior and he was a 50 point guy while still pretty young in the AHL. Also he had a sweet pass last night on the GWG. He's legit!
  23. I busted my pick/prospect nut for Parise and Foligno, but I'd definitely be willing to move some decent young guys like Helm, Anisimov, Tennyson, Bennett, Paquette, Weise, Hagelin, Stewart for small upgrades since I have a decent chance to make the playoffs somehow.
