Vlad Jr. would still be a solid two years from any legitimate top 10 consideration, in all likelihood. -
Vlad Jr. is 15, his swing mechanics are understandably poor. The clip looks like just BP, homer swings. That double leg tap load thing is way too funky to be viable as a pro. Seems to really whip the bat through the zone will though. Heredia looks like Bautista in BP but Rajai Davis in game action. Get 'em all and hope some work out!

*hole I think they should start the year with Sanchez in AAA starting, but if the pen blows it's nice that they can just go down there and grab an instant closer / setup man. If he relieves this year it's not like they can't just transition him back to the rotation next season. Lots of guys break in as relievers for a year or two (see St Louis).

I like it. They got Matz right, and they were smart enough to avoid ranking any newly drafted high school arms. I'm not overly concerned that they decided to put Bryant #5 instead of #1. If he's Troy Glaus, then I could see a Lindor outproducing that over his career. As for Mondesi over Anderson, Mondesi's age vs. level is arguably more indicative of success than Anderson's statistics. Anderson walked like 0 times at a level where BB% starts to become predictive of future success... Biggest gripe for me is Joc at #18. The guy has a near slam dunk production profile and at the very least should be ahead of Bradley and Meyer, maybe sandwiched with Sano. At the least. You can quibble with the order but I'll take this 100 guys over the 100 ranked by other sites. I love how they didn't rank Moran, Conforto, and Meadows. Law and MLB ranked Domonic Smith, lol.

Cotillo is saying that it's done now, pending physical. Four years for between 72M and 78M. Padres lose pick #13 for signing him, so if you want to translate total costs to dollars, say the contract is for 82M to 88M (I think that pick is worth around 10 million....) He projects for 3.0, 2.5, 2.0, and 1.5 WAR in the next four years. 9.0 total. He would have been a 1.5 win upgrade over Toronto's #5 SP (if you call that #5 SP Daniel Norris pitching 150 innings as projected by Steamer). The upgrade probably would have been a bit higher than that though because SP depth is more fluid than that and there is a trickle down effect. You could call it 2 wins right now for ~20M. There are cheaper ways to add two wins!

Does Kessel's contract hurt his value? I don't remember exactly how big it is / how it stacks up relative to others in the league.

Anyone want Grabovski for some pick? Playing like s*** but he's eligible at every position, been getting plenty of minutes and power play time recently. Could start piling up points at any time.

I don't really get it for San Diego. Shields Kennedy Ross Cashner JJ/Morrow/Despaigne/Erlin/Wisler/Luebke/Kelly/Maurer They had a lot of depth with upside already. Maybe they flip the huge injury risk Ross for an infielder now?

Rodon is flaky. He could be Brett Anderson and nothing more. Just don't like the return in a league where you can trade Archie Bradley + for Kershaw if you try hard enough
