If this is our logic, then wouldn't we expect them to go after the original Aaron Sanchez, ie Kyle Drabek? He's got well above average stuff and could be acquired for a lot less than David Price. The Rays obviously do take on reclamation projects, but they're not going to do it as the centerpiece of a David Price deal.

I'm fully aware the Jays wouldn't/shouldn't use Sanchez as a throw in. I'm sure there are other orgs would value him quite a bit higher than that. Ruben Amaro might think he's Jose Fernandez 2.0 for instance. As a long term Jays fan, I do hope they trade Sanchez. I don't see him adding much value from the 25 man.

Well sure but that's not an equivalent statement to what you said before. No umpire in the MLB is immune to framing effects. Obviously umpires *try* not to be influenced by the catcher but that's not too relevant. The data show that they are. Period. And for the most part, it's not their fault. They're being asked to do something that's literally a physical impossibility for a human being - track 100% of a 95 mph baseball with their eyes. We simply are not equipped to do this. Our eyes sample the path and make inferences. Usually these inferences are pretty good but things like catchers framing the end location add difficulty to that interpretive process. I do agree with what you said before - "framing is a skill that shouldn't exist". It's a pretty artificial thing that doesn't add anything to the game. I never find myself in awe or entertained by someone's elite framing skills, even when I know that I'm watching them. When the roboumps come, that will be the end of the Jose Molinas of the world.

Assuming power is equal (which I think you're implying with your toy example) and you're referring to their true talent OBPs (not past results), the difference in projected value would favour the .400 obp guy. I think baseball reference's WAR might penalize a bit for krates. Can't quite remember though.

No, I meant fireballing. It was a meme from the old board making fun of exactly what you were making fun of me for. Not sure if it made the old board's meme power rankings or not so the reference might have been too obscure. Edit: Maybe the meme wasn't even fireballing. But it was something other than spitballing (hence the joke). Do I dare venture over to the old board to look?

Just skimmed this thread really quickly and might have not grasped the whole conversation but were people actually questioning whether the Jays should trade Sanchez for Zobrist? (As if Tampa would even consider it).
