Certainly not. With absolute certainty I can tell you he will get less than $8M, because that's what he was going to get in arb, and the Brewers couldn't find a trade partner so they DFA him. It will be closer to $5M than $10M, and you don't really need to platoon him.

I wouldn't want to bank on Upton as a starter and then get Braves-era Upton. Better to make a cheap investment in Carter or Moss and spread the risk of being terrible between two players. IMO Upton has more utility as a 4th OF/PR/PH vs LHP.

We are one of the few teams that could even give him a starting job. Colorado doesn't seem interested in him and the Marlins are apparently pursuing him as a short-side platoon partner for Bour. He'll get less AAV than Pearce.

It's dead money. You can't unload Smoak except maybe on the off-chance you're trading him for a slightly better player with an also-bad contract, like Jay Bruce. I would just DFA Smoak, there's no point in throwing good money after bad. We have to pay him but we don't have to play him.

Some people just hate strikeouts to an irrational extent. He's got 5 straight years of above average hitting and his market is non-existent. He's probably a decent 1-2 WAR player if strictly used at 1B/DH. Smoak has made it abundantly clear that he is useless in all respects.

I think the FO has written-off Smoak behind closed doors. As it stands right he's limited to platoon/PH duty, but he really doesn't bring anything to the table. We can probably get Carter on a one year deal for $6M and at least have an above average hitter with bankable power. He would have a great chance to run into 40 HR at RC, batting average be damned. Actually he doesn't really have splits, either, so you don't need to platoon him. Just let him split time with Morales at 1B & DH.

Anybody else wanna get Cruisin' Chris Carter for cheap? He's a big upgrade on Smoak and can platoon a bit with Upton. Pearce RF/1B, Bautista to LF, bing bang boom.

I was listening to their fantasy podcast yesterday and one of those poindexters said he would take Hanley over FF in a redraft for 2017. CJ Cron is utterly useless in anything less than a 30 team or Only format.

Lol at home to first times for a slugger in his mid 30s. Most of these guys haven't hustled out an infield grounder in years. David Ortiz barely left the batter's box. Yes, his OF range is garbage, but I wouldn't use home to first time as a proxy for speed. Bautista doesn't sprint down the line to first, nor do I want him to at his age... he's liable to blow a hammy and miss 3 months.
