  1. DDL is the precedent setter of the leagues.
  2. Yeah, not that I want to get into a ranking exercise, but if you had all players ranked as keepers, you could tie compensation to that. For ex, a Top 20 player gets two 1st round picks, a Top 100 player gets a 20B, a Top 200 player gets a 40B, beyond that you get nothing. Of course, we'd never be able to agree on rankings anyway, so I guess it's moot.
  3. Looks like we're pretty much settled here.
  4. Would Ventura have gone #1 in the waiver draft if he was cut? This is a weak year, so there's a decent chance. Maybe Thames would go ahead of him.
  5. I am just kidding, I would have given a 2nd rounder for him. Maybe a late first. 20B is still the most logical for me.
  6. No, he was a 4th round MiLB pick. This league is getting old.
  7. Damn, he may have really screwed his family over if he was drinking.
  8. Maybe we should comp a 4th rd pick, since that's what Ventura was.
  9. There's no precedent for giving compensation for baseball-related injuries, only death
  10. Let's just do a quick vote, 3 out of 5 wins it. I'm not going to lose any sleep over the results, but I vote for 20B compensation or 10B waiver compensation, owner's choice. I believe some compensation is appropriate. I think any player who is an MLB keeper warrants some level of compensation. I don't buy the slippery slope argument; players rarely die and I think it's fine to decide compensation subjectively on a case by case basis.
  11. So can we talk about how gross it is that DR police tweeted a picture of his crumpled body pinned under his Jeep?
  12. What is really the harm in giving a small bit of compensation? Not withstanding that this is the third time, I really don't think this is going to be a common occurrence.
  13. Agreed. His fantasy value during 2014-2015 was comparable to Marcus Stroman now. I think based on his age and ceiling he was objectively a keeper for some team.
  14. I didn't know he was a ginger, that changes everything.
  15. I think it's a sliding scale. Assets that have no value require no compensation, but I don't think Ventura is a guy who would have ended up in the waiver draft.
  16. Exactly. Compensation should be commensurate with trade value. What would Yordano get? A 1st? Probably not a Top 5 1st, but maybe I'm wrong.
  17. I guess we need to discuss compensation once again.
  18. Yeah I don't have a ton of sympathy. This guy showed violent disregard for other players and a s*****, arrogant attitude on many occasions.
  19. He was a piece of s***, but this is a s***** way to go.
  20. This needs its own thread.
  21. Jesus Christ what did i start here
