    Exactly. I thought Goins was nothing, and he's exceeded that far more than I could've imagined. I thought him becoming a good bench option was like a 90th percentile outcome.

    So Ryan Goins is the next Bautista? Do you know how often a 29 year old bench player turns into a perennial MVP candidate? Just a guess but probably not very often.

    I remember when Vernon Wells went through an 0-20 something. It's not noteworthy and only magnified because of the playoffs.

    I don't think anyone denies that he's exceeded our wildest dreams and become a very adequate bench option but he was never anything more than that. He's not a good hitter and never has been. Travis was nearly a win better in half the games.

    IMO, the only inexcusable play was him dropping Beltre's throw. I don't think Martin's ball was particularly routine and asking him to dig out a horrid throw with a runner bearing down is a lot to ask. I also get the impression that he's probably a good dude off the field, so you gotta feel for the guy.

    Well not to dwell, but juiced putting one idiot on a pedestal for no reason kind of doesn't sit well with me. I guess I can't do this forever though since I'm too ingrained in this community.
