140 with Mark Shapiro goes a lot further than 140 with AA. It's still a high payroll and there's no reason to complain about it. -

Not just him, a bevvy of guys they either drafted or targeted as prospects when trading one of their established stars. It speaks to how well the Indians identified good players early and developed them into something big. Brantley was never pegged to be a star, Carrasco was a minor piece in the Lee trade, etc. I'm quite excited about moving to that approach and supplementing these pieces with wise free agent signings. I just really hope they go hard after Heyward this year. That's the only big splash I really care about.

I think Jackson, Adames and Smyly is pretty close to Norris, Boyd and Labourt.

I'd assume he's going to target short term FAs who will provide good value: John Lackey, Jeff Samardzija, Rich Hill, Hisashi Iwakuma, Ian Kennedy, etc. It's pretty rare to come out on top after giving out a Scherzer contract.

He had a good point about last year's trade deadline. I don't think anyone would argue that what Detroit paid for Price was much more than what we paid. I did cringe when he used "literally" incorrectly, though. Come on people.

Yeah, not knowing every executive is fine, but don't whine about things you're clueless about. If you are unaware of Shapiro's body of work, educate yourself or don't post at all. I realize this would significantly cut your post count, but think of it as complaining you don't like cheesecake even though you've never tried it.
